Just got the Sony 20-70 f4. Can anyone chime in if they've tested both? I'd imagine the Sony wins in all areas.

The Sigma really has the edge in the 17-19mm FL range. Wink

"90 Day Woot Limited Warranty" … Gray Market, no Tamron warranty.

Likely because woot isn't an authorized Tamron reseller. For many people, not a deal breaker… just be informed before you buy!

Thanks for pointing that out. Tamron's lenses usually come with a 6 year warranty, so that's a huge downgrade.

Is this speculation? Why would woot (amazon) sell gray market products? I read it as 90 days of woot warranty in addition to the Tamron warranty...I have done RMA with products purchased via woot without any problem.

I would bet that it's just the 90 day woot guarantee and that's it.

This HP computer clearly shows a 1 year HP warranty:

You can poke around for others. When woot sells items with manufacturer warranty, they say that explicitly. On the contrary, they don't say anywhere that the Tamron comes with 90 days woot warranty plus 6 years manufacturer warranty… feels like something they'd point out.

That makes sense, thanks for showing that example!

Last December I got the same lens through GreenToe with $600 offer, no tax no shipping, and it has full 6 years Tamron warranty.

With the 17-70 F2.8 for $699 I don't see why this would be better other than maybe size. The 17-70 is superb. Great sharp photos even at f2.8.

There are some good sample photos on Flickr (attached at the end) on the page 2 and after. Actually, it doesn't look bad for sensors within 30MP. Fairly good for 24MP. It would be a stretch for 42MP or higher resolutions. https://flickr.com/photos/1452687...0312046825

My only question to GreenTone is that how the warranty would go. Tamron only covers warranty for lens sold by authorized dealers, and GreenTone is not listed on their list of authorized dealers.

Greentoe submits your orders to a clearing house of authorized dealers, Tamron included.
