I've bought the honey roasted ones from Amazon twice in the past month or two and they were both fine.

Next time, please feed them to squirrels, pigeons or other birds in parks. I hate to see food wasted like that for such benign reasons.

I believe there is a technical difference in how states consider "food" when it comes to taxation. If you buy something unprocessed or "unprepared" in its natural state, most states do not charge sales tax on such "food." However, if there is added processing or preparation done for you, it is no longer considered "natural" and is classified as a "luxury" item rather than a "basic need" food item. As a result, they charge you tax for the "luxury."
I suspect, adding "bbq" or some "preparedness" went into this, so it becomes taxable.

This flavor nowhere to be found in Costcos located in Cali last week. Called customer service and they said the nearest warehouse that had them was up in Washington. Strange.

nice of you to give amazon the benefit of the doubt,
but it's purely amazon's careless bs using tax to over charge.

right now i have many sugary food items in my cart;
these almonds are being taxed while;
cinnamon pretzels and chocolate pudding is not.
there is no rhyme or reason
it's just amazon's arbitrary BS.

at a local store i only pay "sugar tax" on really
obvious stuff like candy bars and sugar soda.
even sugar cereals and cookies are not taxed.

Went to two Costcos. No smokehouse flavor. And as noted, called customer service. Found the whole thing odd…
