It's better, but the build volume is significantly smaller.
A young apprentice boasted to the master craftsman about his new 3D printer with its vast build plate. "Behold," he said, "I can print objects as large as a dragon's egg!"

The master nodded and showed the apprentice his own printer, no larger than a rice basket. "But can your dragon's egg emerge without flaws?" he asked.

Day and night, the apprentice toiled, yet his grand creations always bore imperfections. Meanwhile, the master produced tiny marvels, each one flawless.

In time, the apprentice understood: 'Tis not the size of the forge, but the precision of its fire that shapes true craftsmanship.

All I'm saying is that the non-mini A1 will be a better comparison.
Size limitations can be very hindering sometimes for functional designs.

All you Bambu fanboys need to STFU. Not everyone wants/can spend $600 on the Bambu lab. The A1 and A1 mini are bed slingers and not as fast as their P1 or X1, which btw all you fanboys are comparing all non Bambu printer too. I have both Bambu and traditional 3D printers with 7 years of experience. I can tell you that I was printing just as much with my Ender 3 as my P1, sometimes speeds doesn't matter. Also keep in mind repairability along with cost. Bambu is quite steep

3D printing evolved beyond printing trinkets years ago. And the Bambu has moved 3D printing into the edge of mainstream. Did you just crawl out of your bunker Adam Weber? You must have, or you might have used the Google machine and discovered Polycam and that with little to no skill following a simple Blender tutorial you can go from phone to 3d print without a steep learning curve.
So, after all of those put-downs, what are you printing that's not a trinket?

Nah, they need to say it louder for the people in the back. I have TWO AnkerMake M5 printers and they are decent printers, but my X1C is better in almost every way. Obviously I'm not going to recommend a $1000 printer over a $240 one, but I would still encourage people to either buy an A1 or A1 mini instead. My wife bought my first M5 from the Kickstarter and I bought the second one because it was on clearance for $325 at MicroCenter (it was a great price at the time). Both of them are in my garage unplugged and hanging out with my old Ender 3 Pro while my X1C does all of my printing much more reliably and with a better software experience. I've tried to sell the two M5s for months, but no one is biting because everyone is just buying Bambu Labs now lol. If I had to do it over again, I would much rather my $325 have gone towards an A1 or A1 mini rather than the M5.

Filament changes are easier in the Bambu.

The software is better. The last time I fired up AnkerMake Studio, there was no way to just slice a model and send it to the M5 without printing it right away. One thing I like about Bambu studio is being able to slice multiple projects/multiple plates and send them to the printer's SD card. I can come back and print them when I'm ready. With the Anker, I either have to print whatever project right away, or I have to manually copy the G-code to a USB Type-C flash drive and physically plug the drive into the printer. This alone makes me dislike the M5 after using the Bambu.

Also, printing from the app has always been easier for me on the Bambu than on the AnkerMake. I'm not sure where the AnkerMake mobile app is now, but Bambu Handy has always been easy to print with from the beginning.

Multicolor printing is extremely easy with the Bambu if that's important to you. AnkerMake had a multicolor expansion in the works and then cancelled it. If you want to do multicolor on the M5, you're doing it very manually with filament changes and inserting pauses into the G-code.

Idk what people might need to repair on these printers at this point, but I wager that you'd have an easier time finding parts for the Bambu printers than the AnkerMake because the Bambu printers are way more popular and ubiquitous compared to the AnkerMake.

Have to agree with the Bambu lab cultists on this one just because the Bambu will have a larger build area.
A1 mini is tiny 180*180

M5 is 235*235

If you are ok with a tiny build area get the A1 mini.

I'm just goin to say your off base. Most what has been said here is largely accurate about Bambu Labs…

I currently have 9 printers, multiple brands. Others have their place but BL is the easiest entry point into 3D printing and the A1 models are at a reasonable price point for most.

Also, no one is paying $799 for a M5… and haven't been for some time. Within a couple months of launch you could regularly find it $450-$500.

I mean it's $699 msrp now and you can get a new one on Amazon for $399.

Having said all this. This is a pretty solid deal for a solid printer (if you don't get a problem one).

3 month warranty so put it through its paces relatively quickly.
