If this is a genuine question, then almost everything about it makes it special. Van Gogh was a master of color and brushstroke. Someone might be able to replicate some semblance of a reproduction, but Van Gogh created the original, which is far more special. The difference in person is much more obvious, because of its texture and the motion it creates. He captured moods and feelings and changed the world of art with paintings like this. If you don't like or "get" art, that might not mean much to you, but this is far from a high school art project.
It looks like its available at other retailers for cheaper, around $25
The same could be said for a lot of art. I said the exact thing about a piece that was 5 canvases of solid colors placed next to each other. Made my art history teacher pretty upset with me. Heck, most people when Van Gogh was alive thought his art was trash, too. It wasn't until decades later people started valuing his art. Van Gogh came around during a transitional point between hyper-realistic art and more impressionistic and abstract art. Instead of trying to make an image that didn't look like an image, Van Gogh made the brush strokes visible so that you can see the movement within the piece. The technique is called "gestural" painting. How many paintings do you know of where you can see the wind blowing? Or see starlight radiating instead of just being either a pinpoint or a cartoonish geometric shape? That is why the Art world finds it special. HOWEVER, before any snobs jump down your throat, art is also subjective. You don't have to feel bad if you don't "get it". I really like art (minored in ceramics in college) and there is a LOT of art that I don't "get" and leaves me asking the same question. Then there's also the phrase "not everything the artist spits is art". Sometimes even the greatest artists make some duds. You should see the painting Da Vinci did of Mona Lisa's sister....yikes!

What makes this painting so special again? Please excuse my art ignorance, but it looks like most adolescents could replicate it quite easily.

The painting is a scientifically accurate representation of turbulent flow in fluid dynamics, one of the most complex ideas to explain mathematically. Kina cool just for that reason alone.

I actually had to pick a painting to do a reproduction of for a highschool art project and picked this because the brush strokes made it look easy. I'm glad I did, because it was extremely difficult, and it is one of my favorite paintings because of it. I have 2 different prints of it in my house, and it looks like I might be getting a 3rd.
