I know everyone wants aggressive trail bikes these days, but If you're looking for an xc hardtail, either of the twostrokes are a killer deal.

10 speed deore and front and rear thru axles are unheard of for $600. Fork sucks, but again it's thru axles and tapered head tube, so upgrades are easy.

more of a xc rider myself..... as redmark said these seem to be specd pretty well for the price... thru axles are alot more rigid than the old quick release stuff.... deore is a solid groupset.... i can take my bulls or canyon most anywhere except hardcore down hill... i really dont know much about BMC though....but aren't most frames made at one of a few Chinese manufacturers anyway?? calling a pedal bike a two stroke is kind of silly.

So the AL five is slightly better than the AL six? The fork isn't even listed in the specs of the six.

Yup, 5 is a bit better. 5 has 11 speed deore instead of the 10 speed on the 6. Looks like they both have the same coil fork.

Hard to find exact specs on bmc bikes, but if the rear derailleur on the 5 is an m5100, that gives you the option to go up to a 11-51t cassette. That would really be the only selling point for me.

I'm looking for a good hybrid - gravel and road. Something that moves smoothly but I'm by no means a bike racer. I think these are Mountain Bikes - any recommendation for a reasonable (under $1000) hybrid bike? I happened upon Canyon Pathlite 5-6 or 7, but it looks like they do not make these anymore - focusing on bikes in the $1500 or higher range. Reading reviews the Cannondale CX2 or Specialized Sirrius are good bikes. One review had Canyon over these two with better components. Any recs????

Search for Kent hybrid on SD and for coupon. I bought the H2 last month and having a blast riding it. Already put 300 miles on. This is my first "none-Walmart " bike so maybe my expectations/experience is low 😆

The 257 AL is a solid choice for this use case if you don't need drops or plan to do a lot of road riding and has pretty solid specs for the price, including 1x11 deore.

The 257 are more commuter focused and the Alpenchallenge are more of the fitness/sports category.

I had a pretty bad experience at a Conte's bike shop. The deals are good, but check over the bike for safety after buying it.

I bought a BMC Team Elite 01 that weighs 19lbs for $1400 last spring. It's a Medium frame that has a 32" stand over… please look at the frame size's stand over on European bike frames like this before ordering.

picked up a 2021 alpenchallenge three a few weeks ago. it's a nice hybrid, and just a tad bit slower than my 2014 team machine sir 02. both are nice. about 5 lb difference in weight between the two, but the hybrid will be nicer for the upcoming weather. also nice to be able to take the alpenchallenge slightly off the road sometimes.

51 vs 42 is a big selling point though. If you are shopping at this price range you are most likely a newer rider and a 42 on climbs is going to be rough. And judging from the pics, I'm looking at the cassettes and where they meet the zip tie on the chainstay, the 11 speed looks to be a bigger cassette, a 51.

Clarification: Hybrid in my description is not battery. Hybrid for me is a combination road/over road bike. I guess they call them gravel bikes. Made more for smooth fast riding on road with the ability to take a few bumps or take it off road a bit.
