Made in China not in Japan. Which other threads have described as important.

Zojirushi makes the best rice cookers. This 10 cup model is too large for most folks and I would recommend getting the smaller version. Cooking small batches doesn't get optimal results in a large rice cooker. It is important to use the rice scooper they give you (based on the wood sake go cup) that is 3/4 of a us cup or about 180ml. The water line is optimized for this rice measurement. The Zojirushi allows for some forgiveness as it accounts for how much of the water weight is there at the start and near end of the cycle (this fuzzy logic means you won't get an time remaining readout until you are already cooking). Really is a great rice cooker that spoils you.

This is a Japanese rice cooker where you are supposed to rinse your rice several times to wash out the starch that causes the kernels to stick together. Most Japanese/Sushi style rice is Japonica short grain white rice and should be rinsed until the water runs clear.

If you are cooking brown rice you only need a simple rinse to reduce pesticide and any debris. You won't get much in the way of sticky starch since the bran is still encapsulating the kernel. It will have a natural nutty flavor and very little in the way of sticking (unless over cooked).

If you are cooking American "enriched" white rice you should NOT rinse it. That cloudiness is more than white rice starch from processing. It includes additional nutrients the USDA recommends for folks not eating a balanced diet. Usually it includes: Thiamine (B1), Niacin (B3), Folic acid (B9), Vitamin B6, Iron, Zinc, Selenium.

If in doubt look at the packaging to see if it is no rinse enriched (adding what was removed) or fortified (adding more than what was there). You should avoid using parboiled rice as that has already been cooked once and is best done on the stovetop.

Been using this similar model since 2013. Made in China and it's still working perfectly, no issues at all. Well, there is one issue, the rice does seem to dry up after 2 hrs if you leave the keep warm on.

Definitely, the Target deal is way better. This model is not induction. But the Target cuckoo deal is sold out.

What's a good rice cooker with stainless steel pot, no anti stick
Use an InstantPot! They have a rice program and they come with a stainless steel pot. It may not do as good a job as a fancy Micom cooker, but it's good enough and if stainless steel is a must have for you then it's probably your best option.

I don't have much luck with Zojirushi. Bought one awhile back, the original pot chips/scratches which they refused to replaced under warranty so I bought a replacement pot, and it didn't last very long either; it has the same issues. I wash it very carefully with soft sponge.

We have this model… I call it my robo-mom. It's cool to fill it up with rice the night before, and then in the morning it's ready to scoop rice for lunch, or I could prep it for rice to start cooking an hour before dinner. We've never used close to the 10 cup capacity, but it's done okay for my wife and I, and I bet with hungry kids it would do well. Or an office party.

We bought it used: you can tell because it looks like someone kicked two dents into it and one of the plastic parts has a piece broken off, but it still works fine.

Sounds like your MIL has been using a metal spoon to scoop out the rice without you knowing.

I've always wanted a Zoji but I've been using an Aroma Housewares rice cooker (about $50) for the past 10 years and it has made really good rice for me. I'm tempted to try the Zoji but is it really worth it?

Forgot to take mine off the fridge when I was cleaning it out yesterday and knocked it off, totally destroyed it.

Had it for years with no problems (sushi rice and medium grain rice for teppanyaki), had just started steaming food with it last year. Sometimes, especially when I cooked like 7+ cups, the bottom like 1cm layer of rice would be mushy. I'm guessing this means I didn't rinse the rice enough?

Will check country of manufacture tomorrow.

Edit: Current one is from China, I'll probably order this to replace mine (does not seem salvageable)

This model is quite old. I think I used this model 10-15 years ago before buying a new model NP-HCC18. Zojirushi replacement inner pan can be expensive $80+ for NS-TSC18. I like the brand though, I have been using this brand only for 25+ years. We are Asian and made various kind of rice with it. But they can be expensive.

I can't speak for this model but I have the higher end one. https://www.kohls.com/product/prd...p?prdPV=10. It is nothing short of amazing. I think I paid under $300 about 5 years ago but so worth it. I've never had a bad batch of rice using it.

I have this rice cooker but mine is one made in Japan. I've had it for about 14 years and it's been one of the best kitchen purchases I ever made. It was around this same price back then and I thought it was too expensive initially when my wife was talking about it but we ended up getting it. It has made rice cooking so easy. We normally only cook jasmine rice and most of the time only between 1 to 3 cups of rice. It takes 39 minutes for it to cook.

You do not wash korean/japanese rice until water is completely clear. You should only rinse it 2 or 3 times well.
