Made in China not in Japan. Which other threads have described as important.

Zojirushi makes the best rice cookers. This 10 cup model is too large for most folks and I would recommend getting the smaller version. Cooking small batches doesn't get optimal results in a large rice cooker. It is important to use the rice scooper they give you (based on the wood sake go cup) that is 3/4 of a us cup or about 180ml. The water line is optimized for this rice measurement. The Zojirushi allows for some forgiveness as it accounts for how much of the water weight is there at the start and near end of the cycle (this fuzzy logic means you won't get an time remaining readout until you are already cooking). Really is a great rice cooker that spoils you.

This is a Japanese rice cooker where you are supposed to rinse your rice several times to wash out the starch that causes the kernels to stick together. Most Japanese/Sushi style rice is Japonica short grain white rice and should be rinsed until the water runs clear.

If you are cooking brown rice you only need a simple rinse to reduce pesticide and any debris. You won't get much in the way of sticky starch since the bran is still encapsulating the kernel. It will have a natural nutty flavor and very little in the way of sticking (unless over cooked).

If you are cooking American "enriched" white rice you should NOT rinse it. That cloudiness is more than white rice starch from processing. It includes additional nutrients the USDA recommends for folks not eating a balanced diet. Usually it includes: Thiamine (B1), Niacin (B3), Folic acid (B9), Vitamin B6, Iron, Zinc, Selenium.

If in doubt look at the packaging to see if it is no rinse enriched (adding what was removed) or fortified (adding more than what was there). You should avoid using parboiled rice as that has already been cooked once and is best done on the stovetop.

I have this exact same cooker. I'm telling you that your life will change for the better when you buy this. I've never had rice so perfect or so delicious with such little skill on my part.

I don't have much luck with Zojirushi. Bought one awhile back, the original pot chips/scratches which they refused to replaced under warranty so I bought a replacement pot, and it didn't last very long either; it has the same issues. I wash it very carefully with soft sponge.
There is no way the scratches and chips get there with the plastic scoop. It is just not possible. Somebody in your house is washing/scopping the rice wrong.

I use Cuckoo to cook rice.

But for transporting and keeping food for a potluck warm, making porridge, steaming dumplings or custards.. this dude handles it.

Gotta say though that it started cooking rice unevenly and not keeping it fresh for days after the 2 year mark, hence the Cuckoo

Zojirushi is the better known Japanese brand, but Cuckoo is an up and coming South Korean brand and folks that have it seem happy with them.
There is a huge difference in quality between Cuckoo and Zojirushi. Zojirushi, like most Japanese products are built to last. Cuckoo is an inferior product and is priced that way. It is not a fair comparison.

I been meaning to upgrade my Zojirushi for years now to the new fancier model but the old one i bought 9 years ago just refuse to break and is running perfect like i just bought it.

Forgot to take mine off the fridge when I was cleaning it out yesterday and knocked it off, totally destroyed it.

Had it for years with no problems (sushi rice and medium grain rice for teppanyaki), had just started steaming food with it last year. Sometimes, especially when I cooked like 7+ cups, the bottom like 1cm layer of rice would be mushy. I'm guessing this means I didn't rinse the rice enough?

Will check country of manufacture tomorrow.
No, it doesn't mean you didn't rinse it enough it means your rice cooker is faulty.

I have this model and have a family of 4. I don't know about the taste, but the 5.5 cup model is more than enough. I paid 177 on sale last year, so this is definitely a deal.

No....but that's like asking for proof a Lexus is the same as a KIA.

Having tested 6 different rice cookers lately, I ended up sticking with a Zojirushi NS-ZCC10, despite it being over $100 more than the others. While the other machines made great rice as well, the Zojirushi just had so many cool and even exclusive features.
It's the only machine I've seen that has handles attached to the bowl and a retractable cord. These were on top of things like having a detachable lid, a top that doesn't open with such force that it can knock the machine over like the 3 Cuckoos I tried and being made in Japan. To Cuckoo's credit, some models from them did have a cool exclusive feature- having a sloped channel and a little removable reservoir on the back that collects liquid that drops when the lid opens.
Though it didn't have as many cool features, my second choice would have been the $70 (in store at Costco) Tiger that's also made in Japan, has a steamer basket and cooks great rice. The only feature I'm really surprised this model lacks is a lid that detaches for cleaning. Every other model I tried did. I figured if this really became an issue, I could always return it to Costco.
Honestly all of the machines worked well but I stuck with the Zojirushi for their impeccable reputation and the number of reviews I've read about machines lasting 20+ years. If mine lasts anywhere near that long, it will end up being more economical since I shouldn't have to replace it every 5-7 years (some even said only 1!) like a lot of Cuckoos. There's definitely a reason why Zoji has maintained a 4.8 out of over 11K reviews.
This model is made in China.

Hate to burst your Zojirushi bubble, but this model is made in China. Clearly stated on Zojirushi website.

"This is a Japanese-style rice cooker that is made in China". You should edit your first sentence for clarity.

This has the heavy pot and induction heating method (the old white models used heating plates which didn't distribute heat as evenly). Unless you are cooking for a large family or events I wouldn't get the 10 cup version and instead go for the normal 5.5 cup version.

Zojirushi is the better known Japanese brand, but Cuckoo is an up and coming South Korean brand and folks that have it seem happy with them.

That implies this rice cooker is made in Japan. It is clearly stated on their website it is made in China.
