Just looked it up. Crazy the latest version of the base ipad doesn't support Apple AI. Likely the issue is this only has 4GB ram.

"Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad with A17 Pro or M1 and later, and Mac with M1 and later."

Almost. The new 7th gen mini has an A series chip from the iPhone 15 pro and it gets apple intelligence.

This iPad has the chip from the iPhone 12… Zero chance it was ever going to get Apple Intelligence.

Well technically the A17 pro and up can handle Apple intelligence which is in the newest iPhone, iPhone 15 pro and iPad mini 7
