I've had this projector since 2020. It was a huge upgrade over my previous Epson 5020. Bottom line: it's great if you want to go over 100" for an immersive cinema experience. But a 100" 4k tv for the same amount is now the better buy if you're ok topping out at 100". So much so I've been looking into them.

A few things about the projector, pros and cons:

Pros:
-Great picture. Zero stutters, frame skipping, etc. Any video you give it is silky smooth. Better than any modern tv I've seen, on par with a Samsung plasma I had years ago
-Great upscaling ability (HD to 4K looks fantastic).
-Really good black levels for a projector. I've even read that it's better than the newer Epson laser versions, but have not seen them side by side.
-Excellent out of the box calibration. I had to make very few tweaks.
-It's made by Epson. The build quality is amazing.
-Only affordable way to get a big picture over 100".

Cons:
-I bought this four years ago, before 100" 4k tvs were going for the same amount. Those tvs will have better black levels, brightness, hdr, etc.
-About those black levels. You need a completely darkened room (walls, ceiling, windows) to get them. Any bit of light will kill it. I have dark blue walls, but the wife won't let me paint the ceiling anything but white. So I get light reflecting from the screen to the ceiling and back onto the screen. I have a grey screen to improve black levels and contrast, and it helps. But it's not tv level. Although I've even noticed that movie theater projectors aren't 100% black and are on par with mine, so that makes me feel a little better.
-It is a light cannon, but I have a Hisense H9G for daytime viewing, and a hidden 106" projector screen that drops down over the tv for nighttime.
-It takes a few seconds to lock onto content. So get used to not seeing the first few seconds of anything you want to watch.
-No hdmi 2.1, no vrr and limited to 4k 60hz. I game in 4k with my ps5 and rtx 3080 gaming pc, and it's fine for me. But does not take advantage of the latest tech if that's important to you.
-It's huge hanging from the ceiling. And it makes fan noise that tvs don't.
-Lamp life. My lamp started to dim after 2100 hours. I installed a new one earlier this year and it looks great again. But that is a few hundred bucks I had to shell out.

Hope that helps folks new to the projector game, or thinking about upgrading.

I have the 5050ub and can't recommend it enough if you're in a room with a bit of ambient light. The thing is a light cannon. At night it's fantastic, and when you don't have perfect conditions it's still completely watchable.

I've read it sucks with HDR content though. What do you think?

I don't have other projectors to compare it to but I think it looks great...the picture isn't as sharp as my LG C1 but the colors are great and black levels are as well.

I think there a device that folks on AVSforums were using to add dynamic HDR to these projectors, like the JVCs have.

Student discounts are only 5%, at least that's what it's showing for me.

Looks like i can get 5% student ($115) and $50 back from Amex so $2134 before tax. Tempting.

Though Amazon can do 6% in points... Almost still make sense to do Amazon for the returns.

Though though Dell will do another $131 in rewards points. Ugh.

Apparently it doesn't work on projectors.

Awesome deal, but would it be a better idea to hold out for the 11000? They should be going on sale soon also. Just a thought.
