Once the phone is delivered you need to activate the device , at which point the number port in process will begin . By default the auto refill is disabled in account , but it won't hurt to check and confirm . Once 30 days service is completed , total wireless will remind you to refill to continue your service , which you can ignore . The device will be unlocked once 60 days is over
I got the phone in the mail today. I ported over a Google Voice number when I bought it, and just activated the phone successfully. Just in case anyone needs some information, here's what I filled out when they asked about the existing carrier I'm using. I don't have the screen up anymore, so I don't remember the exact labels:

Select "Other" for the carrier. I didn't see anything for Google.
The account number is your 10-digit Google Voice number.
For the address, use Google's address:

1600 Amphitheatre Pkwy.
Mountain View, CA 94043

For the pin, you need to have a voicemail pin. If you don't have one:

Go to https://voice.google.com. You might have to be on a computer or access the desktop version of the site.
Go to Settings -> Voicemail -> Call to listen

If this is unchecked, check it and it'll ask you to put in a pin.
If this is already checked, you should see a button to reset the pin if you forgot it.

A couple other notes I wanted to put out there:

There isn't any sort of branding when booting up the phone. I noticed that the A15 from the Straight Talk deal had a splash screen for the carrier when booting.
There wasn't anything branding related until I was going through the setup process. There was a setting for TracFone Wireless Device Pulse terms and conditions. I'm wondering if this screen still shows up once unlocked and is factory reset. Does anyone happen to know?

Overall, it was a pretty smooth process for me. Not bad for a $65 phone.
You dont have to maintain the service beyond the one month which you pay for during the order. Device will be unlocked within 60days of activation, so technically you are paying for the device in the form of Plan payment for a month and then some tax.

I would like to warn you all of the absolute nightmare that is total wireless. I purchased a similar plan for the Motorola razr 2024 deal a couple months ago and activated the phone in early September. I bought it with the plan, activated it and even auto paid to reach the 60 days. I cancelled my service in Dec. Today I called to unlock the phone and they had removed the line from my account. They kept asking for a 4 digit pin to "validate" but the original 4 digit pin was invalid because they had disassociated it from my account. The phone is basically a paperweight because of the endless loop regarding validation. I asked to be transferred to a manager and they refused. Not worth the headache for this "free" phone.
Why would cancel the line just remove autopay if setup and let it expire and phone will unlock automatically.

That's strange, my Moto phones have all automatically unlocked with just 30 days of service. I've never read of anyone recently being denied like that, especially when you stayed active for 60 days. Didn't know they were removing inactive phones that quickly either, I still have 2 from last spring that show as inactive.
I suggest filing an FCC complaint ASAP, it will get a response from higher level support & they will have to fix it - 60 day unlock is written policy, you can get it on their website.

Definitely will look into the FCC complaint. Hopefully will get me further than the hours I've already spent with them. When I originally called they didn't even know about the 60 day unlock policy and the rep said I needed 12 months of active service. The problem is that Total Wireless is a sister company of Tracfone and so a lot of misinformation and confusion spread throughout the company. I was shocked when I saw the line removed as well. I called and asked the line to be reactivated. I even told them I was willing to pay for another month but I needed to "validate" an account that no longer existed on the imei. So I can't even use this phone on total wireless. Total paperweight.

You are correct, I should have worded that better. I simply cancelled autopay, I did not cancel the line. They removed the phone number line from my account regardless. The phone was NOT unlocked automatically.

it needs wifi to automatically unlock if no service. if called them on 60th day or after it would of automatically unlocked before you even called them.

It will help, when all the buyers had issues with ST Moto G power not unlocking a few months ago we got FCC involved & within a week problem got fixed.
BTW, did you just talk to a standard rep (usually clueless) or the actual Unlocking Dept? They should know better - it's only been 3 years since the policy changed from 12 months to 60 days.

That's what I was hoping for but alas no. Phone was indeed connected to WiFi. They said my phone did not qualify to unlock after I called in. Maybe I'm a one off, but I also faced the same problems with activations a lot of others in this thread are stating. I have zero reason to make this up, just letting others know my experience.

Actual unlock rep, although I agree the total wireless rep was also clueless. 1-888-442-5102

Do you actually need to transfer a phone number over or will you just get a new number when activated?

I'm sure it has been addressed but can someone explain the benefit of porting a GV number? I have one that is just a spare number...so when I use it for this deal does that mean I will not be able to use it again? If so, can I obtain another GV number down the road? Forgive my ignorance but I am very interested in the deal and want to understand the process. Thanks

Selfie verification to buy a phone...

Ridiculous. Nobody should be supporting businesses demanding it

As much as I'd like this phone it's what's keeping me from going forward and buying it. Not even major carriers make you jump through hoops like that. The selfie is too much. Even the ID front and back is an overstep.

Don't know how good a35 is but if you don't want to do the id thing straight talk has a few free android phones without the id check.

Both have the same parent company Verizon. Same 60 day unlock. Silver plan activation needed at 45

A35 is a darn good phone and a value for a price. And this is deal is slick. I have one for my teenager and it is great.

Just confirming - until the 60 days passes and the device is unlocked, it won't work on the Verizon parent network with a Verizon SIM?
