I think the lowest cost Nespresso machine is the way to go; the more expensive models don't add any benefit except for holding more water or more used capsules. They sell a separate "frother," for making cappuccinos. These models, which use the original small capsules, are better than the new Vertuo models which use much bigger, more expensive capsules. The only advantage of Vertuo is they can make full cups of coffee, not just espresso shots. When I had this machine, I found the Peet's red capsules the most tasty.
I'd usually pour a "dummy" shot without a capsule to warm up the mechanism and the cup, then I'd brew two capsules and the milk. The taste is… it wasn't bad, never bitter, but never as full-flavored as a really good cafe. Eventually, I spent nearly $3,000 on a real espresso machine. That seems like a lot but the good capsules are $1 each, so that's $2 for every cup of coffee. By comparison, top-notch specialty coffee costs about $15 to $20 for a 12 ounce bag, and that bag delivers 20 double espresso shots, so 75 cents to $1.00 a shot.
If you and your partner have two coffees a day, the savings of a "real" espresso machine is at least $1,400 a year, and the coffee tastes way better.

Plan on 50 cents/capsule in general, almost twice that for good branded ones. As low as 30 cents if you score a good S&S deal. Still way less than the newer Vertuo capsules that are patented.

Haven't seen any real ones for sub-$100 for a really long time, only cheap Temu knock offs. And even the knock offs cost this much now.
Grab one while they got them.

I try to target $.20 per pod on whatever slickdeal I can find. Last deal I was able to score $.10 per pod for Amazon brand capsules. I drink one cup a day, so this is quite affordable all things considered.
