Looks like the sale starts January 11th.

The USA Rail Pass is your ticket to tour the country. Take 10 rides (segments) over 30 days to your choice of over 500 destinations.
Craving some adventure for semester breaks or vacation? Hop from town to town across the country. Or maybe you just want to spend your long weekends away. Go from downtown to out-of-town as soon as the workday ends. Whether you're looking to discover hidden gems or just want to visit some friends in the next city over, the USA Rail Pass makes it easy to get more getaways.

"Book January 11-20 for $299.
That's a $200 saving and less than $30 per segment."

may be a decent deal. however, T&C mentions a ton of restrictions:https://www.amtrak.com/services/c...saRailPass

Scroll down to read the "multi-ride restricted trains"... Not sure if the rail pass is considered a "multi-ride pass". If yes, not sure how many remaining trains would qualify. LOL

Too restrictive and bureaucratic to me. Also valid for only 30 days after first use.

This Amtrak pass is very good for traveling around to see most if not all of US.

In late March 2023, we started from SF to visit Chicago, Dallas, New Orlean, DC, Miami, NYC, Portland and then back to SF Bay area
in 28 days (a 7 nights vacation in Florida, 6 nights in hotels, 5 nights in friends' places, the rest on the train.).

Could have visited cities such as: Denver, San Antonio, St. Louise, Seattle, Atlanta, Boston, ....
if the pass is designed for unlimited getting ON and getting OFF the train for 30 days instead of only 10 segments (10 ON, 10 OFF).

It was really fun and a great eye-opening experience. May do it again soon!

Seeing the country on the train sounds like a great idea. Curious if you used a multi-ride pass at the time? If so, were you allowed to take trains such as Coast Starlight, California Zephr etc? These trains seem to be restricted and not covered by the latest pass as per T&C?

No problems with taking Amtrak trains such as Coast Starlight, California Zephr...

Just need to be aware of that the seats for Amtrak Pass users are limited
as certain amount of seats are available ONLY for those non-Pass passengers.
So book the seat (train) as early as you can. It is free to cancel any booking
and then make a new booking if you can find seats available on the train you want.

Two more things to be aware of:

1) Amtrak doesn't wash the train often, so the windows are not very clean.
Taking photos or seeing thru the window can have some unexpected special effects!

2) Amtrak leases many track lines from freight companies, so Amtrak has to yield to those freight trains.
Being late is then not uncommon. Therefore, plan your whole trip with lots of flexibility, just in case you miss a connection.
