Serious question: What makes these fans worth $20 apiece when I can get 3 RGB fans by Thermalright for less than $14 total? Are we paying extra for the Corsair name or are the fans significantly better?

That's about it. The inexpensive ones usually use a remote control, instead of using a mobo's RGB header. I had Asiahorse ones with remote that spit oil all over my case. To be fair, though, I also had a five pack of the QL120s - had. The LEDs blew one by one, leaving stuck or blank spots while still under warranty. While Corsair did accept the warranty and replaced them, I ultimately decided to swap those out for brown, boring Noctua. Temps AND volume went down.

Added some LED strips to the interior of the case for that bit of pizzazz, tho...
