I just started to replay it after dumping dozens of hours into it on PS4 many years ago. Playing it on steam deck, capped it at 40 and basically all ultra settings( vegetation distance is med)
Fantastic albeit stupid game if you care about lots of the rings lore.
Also a bonus if you liked the Batman Arkham games combat , since this is basically the same combat but with swords.
I've got hundreds of hours in this game. It's addictive, from a time when the sole purpose of gaming was entertainment.

This is a no brainer for $3

Fantastic game right up until the end of the story, and then it turns out that there's this absolutely massive unlimited-feeling grind if you want to get the final ending.

The stealth/assassination stuff is impeccable. Combat against hordes is fun, duplicating the Batman Arkham style of building a combo meter, countering hits and then expending the combo meter on powerful moves to control the flow of the battle. The patented "Nemesis" system basically generates the *real interesting* stories of interactions between you and this dynamic system that generates boss enemies, each with unique personalities that evolve with your interactions (i.e. they remember killing you, you running away, getting away from being killed by you and sometimes getting killed but coming back) and unique strengths and weaknesses. The open level design is excellent, creating endless variety in how to approach any situation and the procedural manner in which scenarios are generated makes the game fun for a pretty effectively endless amount of time.

I loved the twist at the story's end, which I won't spoil here.

The only thing that genuinely frustrated me was that the real ending was locked behind a seemingly endless grind.

Ah so the game pulled the same crap as Arkham Knight and makes you do mindless tasks to unlock the "true ending" that's merely a few extra seconds they cut out from the regular ending.

Yeah I loved Arkham Knight but was pissed about that too -- but at least with Arkham Knight it's not an endless grind, it's just finishing up all the side content and ultimately defeating the Riddler (who you know will be last because it's after getting all the collectibles), and some of that side content is pretty good. The bank robberies are just more scenarios for the best part of the game (Predator scenarios), Azrael is just brawler mastery, the checkpoints have plenty of variety in approaches, etc.

With Shadow of War the grind is soooooo long, not just 'finish all the side quests.'
