Amigurumi yarn is 2 ply. This is not Amigurumi yarn, it's just worsted.

If you go to Walmart, they have the same type of yarn (worsted, but Walmart brand) that uses the same needle size. I believe it is $2.59 for 7oz where I live, which works out to $.37/oz of yarn, whereas this deal is $.40/oz. Not a huge difference, but I find that when working on larger projects having a large roll is much nicer.

My walmart had a ton of these, the same brand and all the other day for 11 dollars, it didn't feel all that nice, so I passed on it. I was just calling out before that it is not Amigurumi yarn.

Classic Red Heart is usually passed by after a new knitter or crocheter gets going. It's good if you want cheap but it's scratchy and unless you want the cheapness to maximize profit as a seller or output if you are crafting for charity, your time is probably worth nicer yarn, both for nicer finished products and not tearing up your hands as you go.

Red heart has its uses and it's plenty soft after a wash or two. I use it for things that I know will need to be washed frequently and needs to be stand up to being handled all the time (like a child's blanket). Plus a lot of people can't afford fancy yarn/wool.
