Doublecheck your motherboard RAM support and QVL, anything over 32gb per dimm on a consumer level motherboard is probably sketchy
I know you're joking, but ram drives used to be a thing. Gigabyte even made a PCIe card with battery backup for this purpose.

Modern caching eliminates the need for it, which is why fairly recent mechanical hard drives really aren't that much slower than SSDs when opening programs in real world use.
not enough ram. i need atleast 256gb so i can load the OS and games onto ram. its faster than SSD

When building my system I've read that bigger capacity modules can be slower.

Hey I had a RAM expansion module for my C64 that I could use as a 128k RAM drive and it was amazing.

And we can't forget the extra 4MB (or, iirc, 6MB if you count the buffer bits on the RDRAM) of RAM the N64 expansion pak provided.

Bullish on these memory deals. The system requirements of the new Deepseek models means a very respectable self-hosted LLM can fit within this amount of memory.

I think most people would rather spend $150 one time for the 96GiB ram upgrade than $20 a month to open.ai.

It's pretty impressive that we can get 192GB of RAM for less than $300.

I think this is good advice. Nothing over 32GB modules was on my MB QVL. I sent a message to my manufacturer re: 4 DIMMs earlier (and got a meaningul response!). They, like many others online, recommended against it. I just sent a message asking if they've tested 48GB modules (in pairs), but I think it's highly unlikely they'd recommend it.

Also, reviews of these and similar 96BG kits show lots of memtest errors and stability issues. It's anecdotal and there are very few reviews, but it might be something to consider. Regardless, thanks for the memories [post]. Smilie

Newegg is still alive? I swear last time I looked everything was either higher priced, out of stock,or made returns a pain in the ass.
