Looks to me the wiha set was made in China.

This is an alternative which I bought which is made in Switzerland. Use GODRPD10 to get additional 10% off so you can offset a bit of the shipping cost.

Are you sure you linked to the tool you meant? I get a completely different rig when I click it. Only 6 bits, no metric hex and non-esd safe handle. Is it really so bad to work on Chinese electronics with Chinese tools? After all, they build awesome stuff with their tools.

Chinese tools are hit or miss, although I'd expect that Wiha has better quality control than most.

*Generic* Chinese bits I've found are often off-center and/or made of some soft alloy that wears away like taffy.

I don't know, it literally has the word "Germany" printed right there on the handle.

Somewhat apples/oranges. Plus, there's a 169.V02 (updated version?) out for a few bucks more.

While drpd.cc seems a legit CA-homegrown outfit that is worth supporting, the returns policy isn't so great.

To propose (to adopt) an alternative that might not be a win-win tradeoff to "made somewhere else than China", I lean towards referencing YT (testing/observational/experienced) reviews or, yes, try and qualify Amazon's set of (visible) reviews- which mentions the integral pocket clips snaps off easily- as more useful to a PB Swiss newbie.

That said, thanks for the lead on PB Swiss, I need static-safe more, but some of their stuff is good, was curious how their circa 1878 forge in Wasen compares to other forges/metallurgy there - or other countries that _can do good work, but choose to hype/import for lowest pride, max profit.

The generalization of merely quantifying as "Chinese tools" ... and somehow correlating "Chinese electronics" (silicon-based foundry/fab) as magically-symbiotically working better with "Chinese tools" (a forge-based metallurgical discipline) ... is whimsical-pride thing at the least.

What's more boringly obvious to say is - quality depends on stakeholders managing and/or naturally conscientious of their work. I can reply with another generalization, "Tawainese work- in both silicon fabs _and in machining- is more consistently high", but lots of pro-China hate Taiwain but they are also Chinese, so patriotism/politics/anti-whatever ... don't have a place when there are soooo many centuries of studies/practices on the true metrics of Quality.

I can vaguely understand your point, but you really need to use proper grammar, sentence structure and the correct punctuation marks. Your two posts were difficult to understand.

It doesn't like periods and is scatter-brained in thought...

You should skip this tool it's utter crap. I am a huge whia screwdriver fan i have a full set and many sets of their micro screwdrivers. But this thing was a disappointment from the moment I got it 50% of the time you're going to lose your bits because they'll stick in the screws without you knowing does not have a good retention mechanism.
Did you lose the ball bearing on your handle/extension? It looks like both have a spring collar holding in ball bearings to grip the bits, if they are worn or missing it wouldn't hold well.

I've also seen this type of retention system fail when the ball bearing gets stuck in the outer position. If the spring collar looks loose, the bb could be stuck, and oiling it and smacking it against something right over the bb a few times might jar it loose.

It's not made in China. The only Wiha tools made in China are the ones with electronics (like their power screwdriver for example). The handle is made in Germany and the bits are either made in their old factory in Germany or their factory in Vietnam, depending on when the one you get was made. They moved their microbit production including all the machines and tooling to their Vietnam factory and the made in Vietnam bits have started to show up within the last 6 months. Most likely you will get German bits with these as I'd guess they don't turn over stock of these that quickly.

I click on the link and am seeing this product for $27.28 (lol, algorithm pricing)! And the clickable coupon is for 20%. [Amazon, where "savings" is a slippery slope]. 😵🥴😂
