Just put 4 bags in the compost pile, heavy manure smell and very woody , I can see why the price was reduced ! I have some 5 gallon grow buckets from last year that I mixed into it , should be ready to actually use for summer - maybe its not a total waste.

No. Woody soil will deplete nitrogen in a process called nitrogen sequestration. It will turn your leaves yellow.

In a container, it's not much of an issue. It's better to have the structure of wood in container soil to provide aeration than not, though one can use something else like perlite instead. Microbial life isn't as robust in containers as in-ground to cause nitrogen issues. Also container plants should be getting additional fast bio-available synthetic NPK anyway, soil in containers should be structurally aerating first and foremost.

it is consistently good for top soil. some walmart stores sell it for a lot more, gotta watch it.
I get 3 bags a week and my yard is lookin good!
