That's assuming it's still in stock. The Walmart deal is very YMMV. No longer in stock in NJ. Probably elsewhere too.
I researched the seller before ordering. They are an official re-marketer for several retailers and brands and previously went by the name Deal Parade. So I am not surprised that your order looks brand new. Odds are good these are open box from its retailer partners Walmart, Target and Amazon.
So what's your third party subwoofer? I am looking at buying the Klipsch R-120SWi from Costco that's on special for $150. According to Reddit posts, this Klipsch model usually works when wired to the output on the soundbar.

Bose Smart Soundbar 550 vs. Google Home Max – Side-by-Side Comparison
• Audio Performance
• Bose: Up-firing and side-firing speakers, Dolby Atmos for immersive sound.
• Google Home Max: Two 4.5" woofers, two 0.7" tweeters, powerful bass.
• Power & Volume
• Bose: 150W output, no max SPL specified.
• Google Home Max: Estimated 200W, max SPL ~95.6 dB, louder for open spaces.
• Connectivity
• Bose: Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, HDMI eARC, optical, Ethernet, AirPlay 2, Chromecast.
• Google Home Max: Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, 3.5mm AUX, USB-C, Chromecast.
• Smart Features
• Bose: Google Assistant & Alexa built-in, Bose Music app, whole-home audio.
• Google Home Max: Google Assistant, Smart Sound adaptive tuning, multi-room.
Supposedly the Google Home Max is the better choice (used, eBay)—it's louder, bass-heavy, and designed for music. The Bose soundbar 550 is more immersive for movies but isn't as powerful for standalone music in open spaces. Anyone have hands on experience with the comparison?

I have a old Sony sub that I'm going to try before shelling out for a new one. Hope it works out.
Didn't work for me

Took a bit of finagling but it worked with the 3.5 to rca adapter and rca cable to sub line in. Shows up in the bose app as just "Bass Module"
Which Sony sub did you use?
