I'm personally not in the market for this guitar but for those unfamiliar with Alto Music, I've bought three different guitars from Alto Music (as well as a pedal and an amp) and all were great transactions and arrived in new condition.

Never seen this guitar live or played it. I'm trying to like the looks...but I can't get over how unattractive it is (to me). Love Joan though...

I personally like the looks.
I will admit that when Trogly compared the shape to a goldfish cracker, I can't unsee it!

Are you buying it to look at or to play? If to play, this is a killer deal on a model that gets great reviews. Especially cool to those of us that know the joys of single pup models.

You have to look at it to play it, and it is the least versatile LP wannabe you can buy with no tone knob and a single humbucker. And yes, it is ugly and non-ergonomic even by Epiphone standards.

Anyone notice the humbucker cover is cracked? I wonder if that is done for authenticity?

I guess you don't know the LPJ world or you would know you don't need a tone knob. You control the tone with the volume knob and your amp. "ugly and non ergonomic are both subjective and not any help in a review. Sounds like you should totally stay away from SGs and single pup models.

I own one and that pup ROCKS! I changed the tuners for stability, but otherwise, it's great. I wasn't expecting it to be as amazing as it is because I've often had issues with the power/quality of Epiphone pups, but they did a great job trying to copy the Velvet Hammer Joan uses. It's very comfortable to play. Incredibly lightweight and for the price, you don't feel guitly adding some stickers to look more punk.

My Joan arrived from Alto. No Epi box, just an alto box, in 2 days. The guitar was in excellent condition with all the case candy. It's the lightest guitar I've ever owned, which was very welcomed. The bridge had to be lowered some, the guitar plays exceptionally well and exceeded my expectations. The neck is beefier than expected, fret work was excellent, no sharp fret ends or dead spots, which is a good sign since these are new old stock from 2021. The pickup rocks. Tuners are cheap, but they hold fine. A really great deal at $299.

This would be an excellent guitar to learn on.
You will need a tuner, a cord\lead and something to hear the guitar (amp, headphone amp, or guitar pedal with a headphone option).
Then you'll need a free lesson website like: justinguitar.com
