Didn't even know they made laptops. Specs say sodimm x2 so should be upgradable but doesn't specifically say so or max amount.

Their website has 3 laptops, this is the middle tier. Check out the highest tier (https://acemagic.com/products/ace...x16-laptop) its $125 more but has better specs including that the ram is upgradeable to 64gb.

Just wondering, did you read the article?
Because the mentioned model/deal over isn't even mentioned in the article. They also stated that selective models and a selected number of them were affected with malware. Also, I believe it's been their desktop PCs that have been affected by this.

Acemagic used counterfeit USPS postage when I ordered from them about a year ago. Item was seized in transit. They did ship another unit and make it right. Not a good look

No, it wasn't. The price has been for the base model that's automatically selected.
I check their website every day.

Solid specs for the price. I don't think I could get one because of the lack of name recognition, 60Hz screen, and DDR4. For the price range its pretty great but I'd rather throw in a little more cash.

If this was a 5800u I'd go for it.

Nice find OP. Solid deal.

For the spyware claims, I think it's a given to install your own windows over this when you get it. Just to remove any bloat that's already on there. Viruses/spyware included. Yeah it looks bad to have bloat but every manufacturer has their own stuff installed on the machine when you get it.

As far as the specs go, yes it is older but the hardware is still really good. This would be able to run any windows task np.

For gaming, I'd look systems with 6800U and up. They have 50%-100% improvement in gaming performance as the 5000 series.

Precisely. A very sensible comment, for which I thank you.
The repetitive complaint about the malware is getting boring and old now. A series of their desktops had that issue, and the people were right to call them out for it. However, what's not right is painting all their products with that same brush. Every manufacturer has some issues with their products every now and then; Lenovo with their hinges esp on their previous IdeaPad Flex lineup, ASUS fiasco, and malware with Ace Magic here, and so on. However, all these problems were old and have then been fixed but the people feel the need to comment the same thing on every thread.
Ace Magic included a script that wasn't fully compliant with Windows standards, which led to such "malware" detections. However, after being whitelisted, Windows Defender now confirms that there are no issues.

You are also spot on with the specs being a bit dated but still very capable, esp at this price point without this being a refurb.
