Personally tried both 500M II and 600M II. Both are very good speakers. If space and weight are not the issue, I would go for the 600M II for just $40 extra.

Yes, you'll need a receiver or amplifier of some kind to power them

I bought the 500M II pair for my office the last time this sale hit with no regrets. Great price for a solid set of speakers.

Yes, you need an external power source.

Most reviewers pick the 500M II over the 600M II's. I have the 600's in a near field setup. They have all the clarity and db's I can stand.

Also, drop a link to where the 600M II's are only $40 more.

Would a 2.1 setup with these and a cheapish sub be better than a higher end sound bar?

Yes, if you are in the center. If there will be people off to the sides, a 2.1 setup is not ideal. This is not just purely from not great off-axis response inherent to these speakers but the very nature of not having a center. I personally have 6.3 setup and do not miss a center at all,, but then I am always in The MLP

But overall, a decent 2.1 or 2.2 setup will crush a sound bar application.

Agreed on the 600's. I previously had the Fives with a 4.5 mid-bass driver near field (desktop). It was great but always wanted more. Was debating between the 500's and 600's. Glad I waited and spent the extra $30. I also bought the R-120swi and works super well for my home office. Thank you Slickdeals 😁

600m front, 500m surround is the way to go.

Why do they show as $499 if you go to Adorama directly?

This is a promo price hence the '&emailprice=t' parameter on the URL.
Some manufacturers don't like their products being advertised below MSRP (or another specific 'minimum'). Adorama likely does this for deal prices so they don't upset their manufacturers.

Depends (on your budget, among other things).
I've been driving my RP600M-IIs with a SMSL SA300 [amazon.com] which I've had for ~2.5yrs, but I also recently picked up an RSL IA255.1 [rslspeakers.com] for a secondary setup. Both have sub-out, so it's easy to add a sub. RSL has a 90hz high-pass filter switch so you can better pair small speakers with a sub, but that's not really necessary for these Klipsch.

I'm sticking to the SA300 as my main, partly because it has a small footprint and fits nicely on my desk. Only con is lack of USB-C (instead it uses micro-usb for usb audio).
