You run your extenaion cord to it.... Yes, male part outside.
So this is to power something INSIDE by running a power from an outside source. Not an extension cord to get power to an outside like a electric tools etc. That's what it sounded like when I first saw the thread.

Its so you have an easy port to plug your extension cord into. For example I have a engine block heater in my car, and I have to open the hood to plug it in. With this i can install this in my front grill on my car, and just bring the extension cord to it without opening my car hood. Its a plug in port to provide power to something in an easier, neater way.
