I'm curious what other $700 you're comparing this to, to say it's only got $700 worth of performance. I don't claim to be a subwoofer guru but this would stomp a mud hole in my more expensive SVS.

also, if this really were a $1400 sub like klipsch priced it, it should really have an XLR input. it does not. and that really surprised me. i think that if you're slapping word like "reference" in the name and pricing it in the 4 digit category, you should have XLR.
Yeah, built to hit a price point for sure.

you have to be on crack to think this is worth anywhere near the claimed $1400 MSRP. this is a $700 sub being sold at the price it's worth, $700

If you just want loud bass in volume sure this isn't bad, but SVS will sound better.
No. I also own SVS PB-2000 and 2 of these were a huge upgrade over the single SVS. The SVS sounds like a weaker version of these.
I almost bought the SVS PB-2000 Pro to pair with my existing PB-2000, but for a few hundred bucks more I got 2 of these, and that was a much better purchase. The SVS got demoted from theater to guest bedroom sub.

I was curious about other $700 subs also. I have 3500+ cubic feet of space and a single RSL 12S ($800). Thinking about getting one of these because the RSL needs a little help with that large space. I don't know of anything around $700 that would come close to this Klipsch or the RSL.

more peak power
kevlar reinforced driver beefier / thicker cabinet with more bracing
wider FR range (flat)better customer service
slightly smaller form factor (~15% smaller volume)
cast aluminum frame on the RSL versus stamped steel on klipsch (Ferrous interference)
high and low pass filters, klipsch only has low pass
built in DSP modes, none on klipsch
real nomex spider material
remote control included with volume, power, mute and DSP adjustment
line level inputs
USB port for firmware updates
line out jacks (For separates)
variable phase not just 0/180.higher value rating (Audioholics)
do a side by side A/B test. the RSL is tighter and more accurate.

Wow great points. Don't have the Klipsch yet. Was thinking about it to supplement the RSL. You make a great case for ponying up the extra $100 for another 12S.

And no, I highly doubt it. I have an RP-1600SW, which yes, is just one step up from the 14000, but it absolutely shames my SVS. It's not even close.
