went the NVMe route:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DBTS4...tle_1&th=1

still a couple of bucks cheaper but allows you to upgrade in future.
The price on this has been dropping like a rock since it was introduced, probably due to the fact that you can still roll your own solution for less with a 2230 NVMe enclosure + SSD that doubles as a hub w/USB-C for charging and wireless mics. Also just one component compared to two with the Lexar.
I suppose it's nice that the SSD part of the Lexar can be plugged directly into the USB-C port if you only need the drive, but I suspect that most people who need a mobile SSD are doing relatively serious content and would want to be able to add power and mics. Power is especially important if you're shooting for a long time and powering the SSD.
Fantastic deal on the best storage/hub device for recording Apple ProRes on a compatible iPhone. The USB-C hub also allows you to power a wireless USB-C mic receiver at the same time making this the ultimate mobile setup. This price is even cheaper than the original kickstarter earlybird specials.

I initially went the homemade route before the Lexar existed by using a Samsung T7 2TB, magsafe adapter, and a super short USB-C cable. I'll say that I don't miss that jerry-rigged contraption ever since my Kickstarter Lexar kit was delivered to me.
The Lexar is much more compact and the whole kit is easier to fit in my pocket. The star of this kit is the tiny USB-C Hub that allows you to easily add an extra mic, while also providing a way to charge. The closest alternative I had prior to this was the Belkin Connect USB-C to 4-Port USB-C hub as that was one of the few hubs that could both charge the phone and provide power to an external USB-C mic. That setup was cumbersome and had all sorts of cables dangling off of it.
The Lexar SSD can be used without the hub and plugged directly into the phone. It's such a tiny setup that I leave it attached to my phone whenever I know I will be shooting in ProRes Log.

I pickup 1 from Costco store today for $47.97. There is lower price around $30 in some Costco stores. If I wait any long, it might end up like LG XBOOM Go XG2T Bluetooth Speaker which sold out or return to vendor. It is little large approximately 2.5" x 2".

Yeah, I'm keeping an eye via the app on the two of the local stores that have them marked down to the $48. But .00 prices don't show up in the app.

.00 is manager clearing price, which hard to catch. There are about 30-40 left at my local store so I will keep an eye on it.

Not an ad at all. I'm just trying to provide some insight as someone who had to use a self-made version for the first year the iPhone 15 Pro was out as there was nothing like this on the market.

Fact is, nothing beats this Lexar kit if your primary purpose is mobile ProRes Log recording.
