For those paranoid about privacy: the OEM is located in China, thus must comply with the national security law there. This means that they must hand over your data upon the request of Chinese government. I know most of us are just small fish. But if you really care about privacy, you may want to learn about this. That being said, the hardware looks good and you can potentially install open source software instead of the oem's OS.

It's okay, the 6 bay was my first NAS. The software was atrocious, but it has gotten better. Luckily, you can install TruNAS.

Absolutely! I bought the 2 Bay version a couple of weeks ago and have been running a Plex server since the day I received it. It's worked flawlessly so far with no issues.

You can! Using docker. I have the 4800 Plus and it's great. This CPU isn't the "best" for transcoding but gets the job done. If you're going to be using direct play for your content, I'd go for it.

You can run it in Docker but I recommend switching to Jellyfin . I bought the 4800+ for about $30 less in Jan.. It seems solid so far, You can run any NAS OS you want and recently found out there is a Synology OS version that is is in a grey area of being legal. I'm using the stock ugos and its fine.

I've been happy with mine as an early backer. Paid for it although cheaper as an early backer.

I put 2 used enterprise class HGST drives and 2 new Toshiba drives. Running really good. Especially with the 2 2.5Gbe ports with SMB multi-channel enabled.

Synology only recently upgraded a bunch of their NAS with a single 2.5Gbe port but they are still using celeron CPUs.

The only drawback I see is that the N100 CPU on mines is very warm. The heatsink on it is tiny but some had success applying better thermal paste and getting 5-10 degrees C less.

I like the fact that they keep adding features and are actively developing the OS and apps. It's been less than a year though so I don't know when software support will slow and eventually stop. They just released 2 more models with better CPUs but for AI stuff. Like using AI on device to organize your files/photos.

I bought the 8 bay myself. I immediately switched to unraid. All new to me but I'm liking it.

I had a Terramaster and it was OK, certainly cheaper. However, I thought the software was terrible. I switched to Synology which was all around better, especially the software. The Synology products are more expensive, but worth it IMO. I'm not familiar with Ugreen, but would give it a try over Terramaster.
