I've noticed that the few stray/feral cats I feed are not particularly enthusiastic about eating Friskies Gravy or Shreds, but they consume Friskies Pate vigorously. Based on this anecdotal evidence, I'm inferring that pate varieties of inexpensive cat food are more nutritious and palatable, as the pate isn't filled with corn, wheat gluten, and oils to create the gravy, as MrTrippySmiles mentioned. Thanks to them as well for the insightful advice.

The seafood pate variety 24 pack is on special, 22% off, for $16.74. That's a great price, too!
Looking at the ingredients, the kitten version has the same % protein but a higher fat content. The kitten 24 pack is on sale for $16.74. A good price. Kittens being so active, may be why the fat content is higher. I always gave my little ones kitten food until they turned one yr old.
I did manage to get a pack for $13.24.
