It appears the way the cup is designed, you cradle an apple mostly inside the holding bag, then lift on the pole some so that the stem finds its way down into the narrow space between the plastic "petals" of the picker basket. Now with the fruit in the basket, and the stem snugged into in the narrowest part of a petal wedge, you can pull the basket away from the branch and basically "pluck" the apple from the branch. But make sure never to pull in a direction that might fold/flex the branch or break it. Pulling outward (away from the tree, toward the tip of the branch), in a way that extends the branch in it's natural direction and doesn't fold it backwards, is ideal.
Then work at perfecting your technique so that every time, all you remove is the apple with stem. Nothing else. Never twigs or leaves. Perfecting the pluck might involve a skillful and careful slight twisting of the stick as you pull. If all you get is an apple, or an apple with just a stem attached, you're doing it right.

FYI Apples seeds don't grow true to seed. Meaning you will get a random type of apple, usually not a great eating type like a crab apple. In addition, you're going to be waiting about 7+ years to find that out. The best bet is to buy a grafted apple tree with the exact type you want and you'll also have fruit in 2-3 years. How would you cut fruit without snipper on pole?
I'm sure you could make it work. Worst case scenario if it doesn't clamp tight enough you could pad/widen the handle at the spot you're attaching it to get a firm hold. It isn't a screw on connection. Not sure why you're getting down votes...

When fruit is ready they'll pull off without snipping needed. I have a wire one I've used for years that works under the same principle
