Just get XM5 if you don't own XM4, if got XM4 not a crazy need to upgrade

Agreed. I've had my xm4's for a few years and love em. Did some research online to see if it was worth upgrading to the xm5's and saw a lot of complaints so I decided to stick with what I had.
The xm6's are heavily rumored to be coming out very soon so it might be worth waiting to see what those are like.
Agree with the other comments. The XM5s have slightly better default tuning (if you use the EQ, that difference isn't that important. Neither has great default tuning), has a bit better noise canceling.
The XM4s are still close in those previous mentions and also folds up, which is better for travel. That hasn't been mentioned and is the main advantage of the XM4s besides usual price. I don't know about the durability issues mentioned. Many people don't take care of their things so it is hard to tell if there is a problem.
But rumors of xm6s, suggests that it is coming soon, maybe this summer. Whether this matters depends on if you are looking for something lacking in current models.

I get the impression people who don't even own xm5s go around parroting the hinge complaint. Probably most of it is due to careless handling then people spend the rest of their lives whining about it. 🤣
