Apparently it must vary by store because I went to my local Walgreens and they are not 50 cents they are on sale 50% off which is not a bad deal which was like $2.89 I think but not 50 cents just FYI
So they hide them behind the counter and you have to ask them? Why would they hide it?
All tobacco-related products are behind the counter since they need to check a buyer's age. And lighter fluid probably isn't something they want kids to get their hands on either. These just have a flip-top lid and aren't sealed with plastic or anything. They're probably not intentionally hidden, but cigarettes and more commonly purchased items get the visible shelf space behind the counter while less common things like this get shoved wherever they have room.
I saw them on the bottom shelf under the cigarettes at a store and asked the cashier to check the price. She read off the price from the shelf tag (showing full price). I asked her to scan it and she grabbed one to do it while saying "they're not on sa …." Then she looked kind of surprised and said "Well what do you know? They're 49 cents."
