You dont have to do this necessarily as the verification code they send when you are purchasing the phone doesnt have to be the phone number you are porting. You can get the verification code on any number then when you port a number over you can use the number barn number for $5

Yes, but nobody sold you something for $125-200 under retailer wholesale cost.
You get what you pay for.
You can buy this phone for more without the requirements.
If they did not require this some folks would buy dozens to resell (which I have no exact issue with other than it make such a deal impossible to offer)
Decide for yourself.
It's really no different from walking into T-mobile and signing a contract to get a 'free' or subsidized iphone. They take your id there.

It may be a one-off issue but I activated my service on June 1, 2025. The end date is September 1, 2025 which is listed on the website. I tried to use my phone today but got an automated response that my call is being transferred to Total Wireless customer service. I have someone else call me and they hear that my number is disconnected. I'm trying to reach out to customer service right now.

Has your number fully ported (GV can take several weekdays)? You should receive a notification from TW when the line is fully activated, until then you only have partial service.

It's not always 60, sometimes it's 61 or 62 days. Call unlock dept if you're concerned - they can manually unlock.

Just got this deal a second time, this time with Number Barn. Bought a # earlier today, paid the $5 (GV only charged $3 iirc). Had to pay another $2 to "upgrade" my Number Barn plan, activated text messages, and then finally got the verification text from Total Wireless. The total time it took was maybe 10 minutes, and that's me not knowing a thing about #Barn to start.

You can not port TextNow number, as it needs more detail like carrier, account number, Number transfer PIN...

you can not use TextNow number to port, as it will require more detail as carrier, account number, activation PIN..

Got my phone today (went with the iPhone 14 instead of the 13) and ported the number over from NumberBarn easily with zero issues. I can recommend the NumberBarn service if anyone's looking for a number to be ported for this deal.
