complete nonsense.. it's an active system that prevents bad website from opening among all the other stuff it blocks. Malwarebytes is the one King 20 years later and that's for a reason

Or just don't visit sites without valid certs? Every single browser will warn you if you're trying to navigate to a site without a cert. If you're on a valid https site, and not literally downloading and running executables, the risk of contracting a virus or malware these days is practically 0...

This is incorrect. There are plenty benchmarks available online and for 99% of use cases defender was up to the task. In fact many like avast made things worse.

I have a bunch of lifetime cds left and use to recommend this to everyone. But MS Security built into Win11 will catch everything this thing can. It's basically redundant at this point. Just make sure you have uBlock for your browser.
Same here. I'm just using Windows Defender, Firewall, and uBlock for Edge, and I'm pretty content. I also recently switched from Chrome to Edge because uBlock is no longer working on it. Although uBlock Origin Lite [google.com] is a decent alternative/workaround for Chrome.

Overall, I'm loving Edge and it feels faster and snappier compared to Chrome. I know they're based on the same engine, but there's definitely a performance improvement with Edge. Perhaps it's because Windows is integrated with it. The transition was smooth and easy, and I find Copilot particularly useful in Edge—great for proofreading, for example.

I occasionally use the free version of Malwarebytes for a full system scan if I'm feeling particularly paranoid—maybe twice a year. But Malwarebytes Free wants to run as a constantly running Service in Windows which I don't like because I just want to do the occasional/rare scan. If you switch the Service from Automatic to Manual, you can't turn it back on unless you uninstall and reinstall it, which is pretty annoying.

Be aware of this:
If you buy a multi-machine one year license like this one, as soon as you use one of the licenses, they all start their 'year' countdown. So if you install the second license on another machine three months later, it's only good for nine months. The package expires 365 days after the first license is activated.

Additionally, if you want the version with the built-in VPN, this is not that.

I've been running some paid version of this for years. This one is a bit more aggressive when scanning (it says it's using AI, which generates the occasional false positive on my machine - I despise everything AI), and will flag some file once out of 20 or 30 runs that's been on my machine for a decade.

I do like it. When it expires, I'll buy it again.
