Then, as of about a month and a half ago, the fan started making noise. (Maybe that's related; I'm not sure.) Hard to describe the issue, but just suffice it to say that intermittently, the fan will get really loud. (This happened to my wife's five-year-old HP Spectre once, and the fan was starting to fail.) Anyway, mine's currently in Microcenter's repair department. I wanted to address before the warranty expired.
I chose the Core i9 over the Core i7, because at the time, it was the only version that came with the 3k screen and 32GB RAM. I noticed later, however, that Asus eventually re-released the Core i7 of last year's model with these specs too. (And I see they've done that with the second gen too.)
Again, I'm wondering if maybe there was an issue with the i9 chip in that small chassis (and, if so, whether it's been rectified with the new series of chips).
Finally, regarding tariffs, I think (at least, as of today [eyeroll]), they've been repealed for computers, computer components, cell phones and TVs. But I admit this is subject to change hourly.
Edit: I see they clearly make the i7 version of this with 32GB of RAM too. Initially, with the first gen, the i7 only had 16GB of RAM.

In my experience, most of the laptops I've had have vents on the bottom, and they tend to run hot when in my lap or bed because the vents get blocked by my leg or comforter, making it harder for the heat to escape. Just my experience.

Memory is soldered. NVME can be upgraded but the teardown on this is a little more involved than your average laptop where you just pop open the bottom and there it is.

If you can afford it, I would recommend finding a deal with better components, only because it will last longer than 5 years. BB sometimes has them open box. I don't even want to say what I paid for mine, but I'm thinking of selling it while it's still such a beast.
Be careful with the temps and get a laptop cooling pad, it will help. Make sure to load ALL the ASUS software, especially for the second screen. Mine is connected and runs a really funky resolution and you might get mixed results just trying to duplicate or extending the monitors.
Good deal though, definitely would recommend.
