I own this unit for a month. It works great, and I live in the desert with hard to believe amounts of calcium in the water (TDS 1350). Using the filtered water from this unit, my electric water pot bottom still has a mirror finish after a month, and it always has water sitting in it. Prior to buying this unit, it would be caked all over with white calcium. My espresso machine would need constant decalcifying too. No more.
This unit also holds 1.33 gallon in the main tank, and you get a gallon of pure water from that. Very little waste water, and twice the capacity of other popular countertop units. The two replacement filters, which are supposed to last 1 (PPC filter$30) and 2 years (RO filter $40) are cheaper than most. I use it everyday. It's totally automatic. Take off pitcher (comes with 2) and it stops. Main tank empty, it stops. Replace pitcher with refilled main tank, it starts again. Dispenses water too, in a glass or my coffee pot in the morning. I have a water carbonator too, and this machine is the first step before chilling and carbonation. Very cool appliance that has served my needs.

There's a whole procedure for how to prep this device for a lack of use ...for over 3 days. (Scroll through product images on Amazon)
Seems like a lot of work- is this standard for filters like this?

I don't understand your comment. I use mine everyday, and if I go on vacation, I'd empty it and unplug it. What procedure? Filters are replaced easily from the top, takes 10 seconds. There are float sensors in the pitchers and main tank to let the machine know when they are empty, or removed.

Did you check the Amazon product photos as I suggested?
They want you to unplug, wait 5 minutes, remove the filters, wrap the filters in cling wrap, place them in the fridge. then upon return, re assemble, fill to max line. and dump 3 pitchers worth of water down the drain to purge the system.

I did check, and now checked again. It's a video, not a photo, and the time it takes for the slow, precise instructional video to show every step, until the fridge door is closed with the cling wrap filters inside, is less than a minute. Whenever you change filters you must purge a tank of water too.

They are obviously being meticulous, because you would be asking "What about mold and mildew if I go away and leave it full of warm, stagnant water? Wouldn't the filters get moldy inside? How about that Mr. Fung?!"

Good god man, I hope your 13,000 posts aren't all like this! You show your interest in a product by complaining about the very responsibly outlined procedure if one does not use it? A very simple, practical procedure at that! Talk about first world problems, LOL!

Fakespot of a D, 10% of the small number of reviews are 1 star, being critical of a commenter because he asked a fairly straightforward question and 2 threads you've posted in the last week are both Dreo products. Sounds like you might work for the company.

I don't, but this YT guy gets his Dreo products free, and even wants to "Please Dreo". See my 5 day old comment challenging him when he stated "Dreo fans last so very long". They're a 4 year old company.

But I know you're just making false accusations because that's who you are.

Ask me a silly question, just to further your post count, and I'll reply to you in the same way I did sarcasmogratis. I'm an adult, and I'm not here to suffer fools. My tone is harsh now because the guy actually pm'd me. He said I was pedantic because I looked for a photo when he told me to, and then pointed out to him that it was a video, explaining my inability to find it the first time. That pm was inappropriate in my view. It's plain weird. Who does that? I pegged him right.

I am grateful I came across a link to a deal here, after a dozen years of inactive membership, and was able to purchase a refurbished AC unit at a great price. I posted 3 deals to pay it forward. One was hardly a deal at all, and I took my lumps. My overall view of social media however, is the same as Wednesday Addams: "I find social media to be a soul-sucking void of meaningless affirmation".

Picked up an Aquatru countertop with glass carafe with 2 years worth of filters for $400 when it was on sale (pre-Trump tax). Look up 3rd party reviews rather than company claims before you buy these unknown RO machines, most of the time you're just wasting money.

I'm glad you're happy with your machine, and I'm sure they appreciate the plug. It reminds me of a Mr. Coffee my parents had in the '70's. My Dreo is still working flawlessly, and according to Amazon is selling twice the number of units as Aquatru. No need to denigrate another brand you haven't tried, just to confirm your significantly more expensive purchase in your own mind. Dreo filters are much cheaper too, and its water tank is twice the capacity.

I'm sure your company would do fine, with or without my input.

I posted a deal, and also own and use the product. You come here ONLY to explicitly plug another brand. Without ANY use experience, you denigrate the Dreo, and deem your product superior. Which one of us is more likely a pathetic internet shill? Or, as I stated previously, a guy trying to confirm his overpriced purchase in his small mind.
This childish "You work for the company" accusation (always made with zero evidence) never gets old for small people who have nothing to say, and are looking only for meaningless affirmation online. You're nothing but a dime a dozen internet troll, lol.
