Their tapes were crap and they held out on putting anything on sale even when DVD-R was starting to become available, then they did the same with DVD-R.
They were also on the wrong side of history in each generation's format wars, backing obscure mediums like mini disc.

Won't even have to wait that long now that the chinese company YMTC has stolen all of Samsung's technologies and is flooding the market with NAND and DRAM. We might even get that cheap 128TB SSD Samsung was promising us back a decade ago in 2016.
