How do you feel about the difference between fair and good usually is ? Is the $30 on fair worth the gamble.
The question wasn't for me, but I think Best Buy's condition ratings are a crapshoot. Also note that when the deal was posted, the prices were lower. Fair was $550 and Good may have been under $600 too. I personally wouldn't be chasing this deal with Best Buy's pricing games (knowing that their condition ratings are unreliable).

I also had the touch screen issue. Sometimes the touch function stopped working and the touchpad worked really weird. Normally a reboot would solve the problem. Ended up selling on ebay

I once bought a zenbook 14x for $300 thst was open box fair, it was brand new with 2 cycles on the battery, it only had some leftover stickers in the lid thst I easily removed with isopropyl alcohol, but other than that it was flawless, not a singles scratch.

Finally got a chance to pick it up. Looks like I got lucky and the open box fair is in perfect condition. Included the original box which actually still looked sealed so could have easily been listed as open box excellent. The battery shows 2 charge cycles but the history only shows 11min of active time before today, back in sept 2024. And the warranty does match up with that and shows only 7 months remaining. But I'm pretty sure I saw that open box items qualify for full manufacturer warranty so need to figure out how to get that applied.

Need to run through the updates and hope I don't develop the ghost touch issues in the next 2 weeks. Amazing deal for $550!

Use this link to request a warranty date update. Don't mention the open box part, just state when you purchased it and upload the receipt.

I got it in excellent condition for $624.99, with only 7 cycles and 8 months of warranty remaining. Everything seems great so far. Beautiful IPS display with 10-bit color depth.

In the battery report that you generate, there is a "Usage history" section that breaks down the weekly usage of the system. If it's all blanks, may never have been turned on. I got a refurb laptop last year that was all blanks so I assumed it was just new but sold as a refurb. I'm not sure if there is some other explanation like maybe a battery replacement maybe?

I use HWINFO64 to look at the prior usage, particularly the battery health and the SSD usage which will show the total hours powered on, total power cycles, total unsafe shutdowns and total reads/writes performed on the SSD.
I bought another open box good and went to pick it up. It was in a plain brown box with a sticker on the bottom of the laptop saying it was a shelf item from OCT 2024 (basically a display model). I did not want something that has been powered on every day for 12 hours for the last 7 months. I knew they had 2 in the store so I asked to see the other and it was pristine on the original box. The girl did an exchange on the spot and I wound up with a much better, almost new unit with few power-on hours or power cycles (but the SSD had 3TB of writes and 1TB of reads, like someone bought it and did some testing and returned it).

Warranty return, not normal return. You have 24 months to return anything for mechanical/physical defect. I've returned both TVs and laptops in the past without an issue. I've received both credit for a new purchase, or the same device.
