I think he's saying you're better off buying an angle grinder from Harbor Freight?
Commoditized items I always check Harbor Freight. Think moving blankets or tarps or zip ties.
Hand tools? I search online for which manufacturer is known for that hand tool and buy that. In this case, those in industry actually call angle grinders metabos, similar to how we use "Kleenex" for "tissue paper".

Cheap angle grinders have their place. I know some professional welders/fabricators that will keep multiple HF grinders on their cart because it saves them time not having to swap out disks. Tools like these the consumables matter way more than the tool itself.

As a welder I Completely disagree with what you've said. I don't speak for all Welders thos.

I'm speaking more from the vantage point of a DIYer looking to buy once, which I'm sure we both can agree is a larger audience on SD than pro welders and fabricators on SD.

Even as a DIYer, I'm willing to pay for the more likely smoother experience than mess with multiple trips to the store, troubleshooting, and returns.

Same. I have a 10-12yr old DeWalt corded model that works as expected, so I wouldn't ordinarily be looking to upgrade, but Metabos made in Germany have such a stellar reputation that I'm considering it at this price.

My old corded Rigid angle grinder gave out after 10 years or so. Got lazy and didn't bother to register it for lifetime warranty. I am just a DIYer and a home owner. Nothing heavy duty. I have a Bosch cordless but still bought a cheap Chinese one off Amazon to replace it.

As a welder, speaking for all welders, best practice is to keep multiple helpers.
