What if you regularly have bleach going down the drain though? Not straight bleach but sometimes I'll pre soak whites in bleach or use bleach to get grease stains off of plastic kitchenware.
Most septic system references will tell you to avoid harsh chemicals and space out laundry. Personally, I've never heard of using chlorine to whiten plastic kitchenware, but I'd suggest you do it sparingly if you don't want to inundate the system. They are designed to take a certain amount of chlorine because it has been used to launder clothes for the longest time, but when the levels get excessive it could do harm.

At the end of the day these additives can only really bring one thing to the party - bacteria. And during the course of regular use, you and your family will introduce more than enough bacteria to keep things rolling along.

Nope - they do nothing. Look for some articles - they all reference the same thing that no peer reviewed study of any kind has ever found any of these additives effective.

Furthermore, there are products that have been found to contain products that actually do harm to the system, whether degrading plumbing components or the concrete tank.

At best, you're pouring money down the drain. At worst, you're actually hurting your system.
Well I just described how I used similar product to clear up symptoms with a tank that I had, it was obvious the product did something to clear things up since the problem went away shortly after use. Could've been a big coincidence but I'm fairly sure it was the product that helped to clear things out.

Placebo effect - the same way that some percentage of participants in drug trials who take sugar pills believe they had a positive impact on their symptoms. That's where most of these products get their good reviews from as well.

You won't find an extension college in existence that doesn't take the same approach with these. If any of these products were proven to be useful in any way, they would be recommended and pushed hard by these same institutions, who spend a lot of time researching how to optimize and improve septic operations.

I'm not here to say you're wrong about these products in relation to septic systems. However, the readiness with which you dismissed something taking place outside the human body as resulting from the placebo effect is both laughable and troubling, especially when the person you responded to was describing a binary condition that is not a matter of degrees, but rather phantom flushes vs. no phantom flushes, and stated that it could have had an effect on another part of the plumbing, upstream of the septic system. It makes it difficult to trust your ability to read, absorb and comprehend, let alone consider the nuances of outlier circumstances and makes one far more inclined to believe that you read something at some point in time that, in fairness, is true for the majority of cases, but treated it as an absolute that you were perhaps too eager to inform someone of.

Man that's a lot of nonsensical writing in support of flushing money down the toilet.

Find a reputable source that recommends using these products and I might bother reading all of it. I won't waste my reading comprehension on the likes of you until that point
