That would be a reasonable if they were in the same price range as this deal. $400-500 vs $100. I got into this hobby in part because a $100 printer was an option at the time.
I wouldn't buy a bed slinger 3d printer in 2025 when coreXY are now plentiful and almost as cheap (see recent FP deals on creality K1, flashforge 5m, and the elegoo centauri carbon)
If you want to learn being a 3D printer mechanic, yes

I bought this like 6 months ago for like $120. My refurb was "like new" with the exception of a gouge on the back of the (fairly larger than i expected) aluminum body. Coming from an Ender 3 v2, which I grew to hate, this is a total breath of fresh air. It's fairly low maintenance, but it is quite loud as it is a very fast bed slinger.

It prints great and consistently and I've had no problems other than the filament runout sensor not working one time (turns out, you need to plug it in!). I did replace the build plate as the one it came with delaminated after like the 3rd print (yr boy got stuff a lil hot).

It does level the bed prior to every single print (sets an offset) which adds a small amount of time to each print, but the massive increase in quality from my previous printer I could care less. Also all the aftermarket stuff for this printer is cheap as hell. I got the lil camera for 10 bucks just because wtf it was 10 bucks.

I use orcaslicer and just send the files to the printer over the network and then command the printer to print the file from it's own crumbum web interface.

There's a small group of nerds tinkering with this, but if you're looking for MASSIVE aftermarket support like the previous enders, its kinda there, but not really. This guy rocks a k1 hotend and I've had no issues at all. Haven't even had to replace or touch the nozzle more than cleaning it.

If you're okay with a "top of the line" consumer grade bedslinger, that is what this model is "going for." I was also dead set on a bambu but they started getting sketchy with open source.

I bought this one new from slickdeals during Christmas ($170). Refurbs can be hit or miss but I think this is one of the best starter 3D printers. I can't think of anything comparable at all under $100. It takes a little to get it setup but we've printed through several rolls of filament with it. It does need tweaking over time (especially using low quality PLA - which we use) but there are a ton of resources and youtube videos about the ender 3. I think this is hands down a fun way to get into 3D printing. If you love it, you can can always upgrade to something $200 or $300 and get a more seamless experience. However, this one is great for learning and the parts are really cheap off amazon if something breaks.
We did the same thing a year and a half ago. This printer was a great introduction to 3D printing. Still going strong, and last time the price dropped to $99, my teenage son bought a second one. You will spend time tinkering, but that is how hobbies work (and how we learn).
Best advice I got was to just go ahead and spend an extra $10 on a PEI plate upgrade right away. That will save you a lot of hassles with build plate adhesion.

The Ender3 V3 SE is the bare minimum I'd recommend as a beginner printer in 2025. I picked up one of these a few Black Fridays ago it was plug-and-play out of the box and ran fine for months without any real hassle before I sold it on. The KE is a better printer but the SE is fine for absolute beginners. Like the other posters say, if you stick with the hobby you'll want to move on to something probably corexy with Klipper, and possibly a larger print area, but you don't have to make that jump right away; also keep in mind the consumable (filament) costs usually end up being more than the printer fairly quickly.

I've had a Bambu before but I can't recommend them to new buyers anymore due to the recent software shenanigans and the company suggesting more.

The real trick with all of these cheap 3D printers is to buy it from the right seller so that, if you take it out of the box and it has problems, you put it back in the box and ship it right back. If you keep a janky printer and try to get it working, especially as a beginner, it's on you. None of these companies have very good QC (including Bambu) so there's always some odds of a lemon.

Don't do it, unless you want a printer maintenance and upgrade hobby.
If you want a tool that creates objects, get something modern, like a Bambu.

Is it really that bad? I've had an Ender 3 V2 for years and it hasn't required much maintenance. Hard to imagine the Ender 3 V3 SE would be worse.

Got one from microcenter in 2024 and spent too much time troubleshooting CR Touch errors and generally poor quality PETG prints. Returned it a few days later and bought a P1S and never looked back.
$99 is a great price if you're just going to be printing PLA and are willing to tinker (or happen to get lucky with good out of the box prints).
Personally, I'd rather spend my time designing in Fusion than tinkering with my 3d printer.

Good entry-level printer at this price. Worth it if you're okay with some tinkering.

I had a V3SE and replaced it with the FF 5M. What would you like to know?

i keep an eye on goodwill's auction site (great for autographed sports memorabilia) and there are a TREMENDOUS number of old ender models being donated.

i've never owned one - and i am well aware that problems do get solved over time - but when tech things are donated in bulk it appears that they -at least at some point- let consumers buy a substandard product

Bambu locked down their firmware and are not what they used to be! Plan to be renting time by the hour on your printer soon ROFL. Nope Bambu are a hard pass after that fiasco! Plenty of modern Klipper based 3D printers on the market that work equally well to Bambu printers so no reason to put up with this!

taking the conspiracy theory to extremes there. the centauri carbon has locked down single source software and no one's crying about that🤣

it's no different than apple disallowing randos to send software to iphones and ipads... complain as you may they always work

I don't think that's the best way to look at it. Think about older computers. A 2nd gen i5 laptop may have been a great computer when new but it's now an old computer. This was even more true when computers were evolving faster.

The home printer market changed a lot over the last few years. Hardware that was $300+ a few years back has been recently selling for $100 (see the recent Ender 3 S1 deals). Also, the new stuff is a lot better than what we had 3-4 years back. A few years back (say just 2022) it was amazing that for around $200 you could get any type of 3D printer and people were really excited about it. However, things have moved forward quickly. Print speeds are much faster, auto bed leveling and auto z-offset are basically standard now. PEI build plates (easily added to older printers) are again, the new norm.

I gave away a large 300x300x400mm printer that had done great work in the past. However, I didn't need the size and really, it was so much slower than my FF 5M. If I didn't have a printer (say a teen with limited funds but interest) then they likely could do great work even with a printer that is obsolete by today's standards. Just like a 2012 laptop can still work really well for writing papers and doing spreadsheets even though a $200 laptop is likely much more powerful. I guess we can say the same thing applies to all those old phones too!
