Be careful what cables you use:https://www.reddit.com/r/cybersec...nd_how_to/
Those are $150+ cables, not to be confused with these cheap ones you buy off Amazon. Those cables are likely left around corporate offices to steal their data.

Agreed. Anker is a solid brand with consistent quality. I've used both these and another brand & they've all worked beautifully.

What are people using this on?

Out of all the amazon review pictures, only one shows them using it on dual chargers.

Seems a bit niche

I use mine during vacation. Fewer cables, my only issue is while they say it supports 140w it does not if you have two things connected. For example, I connect my Steam deck which requires 65w and my phone which is a max of 35w it seems like it's not smart enough to distribute what is needed for both. I use the large anker power brick that supports it.

MacBooks can charge with these through a thunderport 4 port.

I really love mine, I can run a single cable from the charger up to my desk, then the cable splits into two so I can plug in both my laptop and my phone.

Most chargers with multiple USB-C ports will actually split the total output power between whichever ports are in use. So a 65W charger will output either 65W on one USB-C port or 30W across two USB-C ports. Therefore if you want to charge multiple devices from one charger, you either split the power at the charger by plugging multiple devices directly into the charger, or split the power using this cable, there isn't much of a difference. †

† This cable does introduce some inefficiency, and it will also prioritize charging one device first. USB-C power delivery is extremely complicated and this cable cannot handle the full spectrum of possible behaviors (e.g. it can carry 140W of power to a single device, but if you plug in a 2nd device, it might not be able to split that much power so it will downgrade to carrying 100W of power, and then split that across two devices).

Anyways, it's not perfect, but it saves so much space compared to carrying two separate cables that I just don't care. And when charging only a single device it behaves exactly like a regular USB-C cable and retains full USB-C power delivery capabilities, so I can get that guaranteed full 140W power if necessary.

Steam Decks require 45 watts not 65w

That makes it worse then.

How? You have two devices that have a max of 45W and 35W respectively which this cable is delivering.

I think that he is saying it is not delivering enough power in real life for him.
