it's because they know nobody wants a hedge trimmer on a pole... so bundle the useless attachment to dump them for something
My 9' tall 50' long yew hedge disagrees! I'm too old to get up on a 10' stepladder to trim that thing.

...even the gen 1 of these from like 10 years ago has no issue chewing through some of the thickest brush I've ever had to cut.
I use a hedge trimmer regularly to trim brush near the ground. This is a great tool for that.
