Cheap insurance. Love these things. If you think there isn't a tight seal on the doors, put a flashlight in the fridge and close it. See if there's any light coming out. It took me several years to find out that my freezer would never shut all the way. If I had found out early, would've saved me big $$ on repairs and energy.

After several years I finally got to use my thermoworks dot probe thermometer 🌡️ just to check my fridge temps after thawing it out. Stuck the probe in the fridge and hung the magnetic reader on the fridge door. Yup the fridge is working fine 🧊

Bought the Dot on black friday 2022 🎄 opened it in 2025 😂 twas a covid purchase 🦠 stimey checks 💰 remember those?

I use it for smoking bbq. The temp right on the grill can be 20 to 50 degrees hotter than what the temp says on the built in thermometer higher up in the smoker. I put this right next to the meat to get the real temp right next to the meat. Imagine that. Easily worth $4 to not overcook expensive meat.
Sorry, just noticed it's fridge/freezer not oven. Anyway, I use a oven safe one. Same premise for the fridge. Good to know the REAL temp.

What others said, but I have a fridge with no temperature readout, and this would also show how cold/warm each section is.
Most refrigerators (even modern ones) don't have quick temperature readouts. Aquariums have black sticker strips that show the temp but don't indicate refrigerator range temps (like this [amazon.com])
At this price, I'll grab one for each fridge and zone.

Most modern refrigerators are garbage built to fail right out of warranty, especially LG and samsung, where temperature will slowly not stay cold, so you need this to get early warning of the failure instead of biting into your spoiled fluvengraken and spitting it out.

I have similar like this, not sure if same brand, but at least one consistently is 20 degrees off, not sure what causes these to fail.

This works well. My fridge has stopped defrost mode. So every Sunday; I have to unplug it while we go to service at church. This helps me monitor well. I had purchased two on the previous sale.
I had the same problem. Tried all kinds of things.
Turns out a $4 temperature sensor (aka thermistor) was to blame. Problem solved.

I just read that page.
No mention of the size of the dial.
It also says : "Item Height 0.03 centimeters" Mistake, good for a laugh.
Mentions length as 2.6", so the dial probably is only about 2".
Also : "Upper Temperature Range 26.7 Degrees Celsius" About 80°F.
Reading all these mistakes makes one wonder how accurate the rest of the information is.

Reminds me of eons ago when Howard Cosell was reporting on swimming events at an Olympics and talked about the "100mm" event. Big Grin

That usually happens when one of those defrost thermostats fails. They can be replaced, but it's a pain.
