  • When the sheriff of the silo commits the ultimate sin, the most unlikely of heroes takes his place. Juliette, a mechanic from the down deep, who never met a machine she couldn't fix nor a rule she wouldn't break.
  • What happens when a world built on rules is handed over to someone who sees no need for them? And what happens when a world broken to its core comes up against someone who won't stop until things are set to right?

The book is different, and in my opinion better. I don't know that I would say 10x better.

Well, those episodes kinda setup for the story and plot. IIRC, there wasn't unnecessary fluff.

I've read those books and thoroughly enjoyed them. I thought the silo concept was neat and innovative while it still contained some of the regular elements of human nature in these kind of fictional post apocalyptic environments.

I think it is recommendable series, particularly at $4.

I'm guessing if I thought the show was super good then the book would be 10x better?

Are books MUCH different?

I love post apocalyptic stuff, but I only made it through 3 episodes of Silo TV show, it got boring with nonsensical petty side stories real quick and just plain weird like it almost expected me to already know what was going on that would possibly give some meaning to the scenes (which I didn't see cause I didn't read the books), without context the show got completely stupid real fast. I dumped the show on E4. It was insufferable. I love sci fi of this kind but it was unwatchable.

$4 is really good for books as long as they're not as stupid and boring as the show.

I don't know if I made it past the first book. I remember it feeling really slow to me, and not in a tension-filled anticipation-building way. It was pretty clear what was happening quite a while before there was any payoff.

Edit to add: I still think this is a good deal for $4.

Idk... It's such an established and famous series I feel weird being critical of it. Maybe I just don't get it. I always try to push through the "setup" of any show. But halfway through the season there was no main plot anywhere to be seen, just a lot of talking, no interesting characters, nothing happening at all. To me it all seemed like just fluff and nothing else. By E4 there was not a single thread of "story" that I wanted to follow. I'm not a fan of sci-fi bloat. I like when they get on with the story if there's one.

In comparison look how much Fallout accomplished per episode. Every scene is interesting. Silo didn't have even 1% of that. And I'm not a Fallout fan, never played games and knew nothing of it. But it's just well written.

I loved the books, and I thought the pacing was good. And if you thought it was clear what was happening, I think you may have missed a lot, because much of that is explained in later books where the timeline shifts to before the silos. Anyway, I haven't seen the show, and I listened to the audiobooks (great narrator) so I can't recommend the books as compared to the show, but I can tell you I really enjoyed the ride and I listened to all 3 books in a row.

I'm currently reading the series and I'm overall enjoying it. It starts off with a fast paced start that sucks you in and then switches stories and goes at a more normal novel style pace of introducing characters, conflicts, etc. This made a lot of sense when I read that the beginning was originally written as a series of short stories that then got popular and turned into novels. I haven't watched the show, but so far enjoying the books and plan to watch the show once I'm done to see how it compares (i'm about half way through the third book).

Overall enjoyed the books but not my favorites of all time. I do like the show though personally.

1st book is kinda sorta S1 and S2. But as everyone says it's different. Both are good and a steal at $4 bucks.

The highlight of the book and the series is that it makes you think and wonder WTF is going on, in a way where you are able to make educated guesses that are later revealed. Were you browsing your phone or multitasking while watching the show? That would explain why you missed out on the details that make the story draw you in.
