Yep, otherwise he would have just flown around the tornadoes in the opposite direction to neutralize them. Movie would be over in 5 minutes.

Glen Powell will forever be the "Anyone But You" guy to me. One of the worst movies I've ever seen, but that wasn't his fault.

This movie was...frankly terrible.

It's a legacy sequal/reboot of Twister full of really gauche 'remember this' moments. You will be covered in callback vomit by the time they get to the diner, which is itself a callback. They re-hash stuff from Twister so often it's embarrassing .

There is an interesting theme about _fear_ and I can see what they were trying to do with that story but the execution on it is poor. Tyler Owns is a horrendously obnoxious character and never becomes likeable. He's supposed to be this beacon that Kate ends up finding to help her confront fears but that deflates her characterization. He should have been cut entirely from the movie and let Kate learn to confront her fears without him. It would at least have give her character some actual growth.

Owens' chasing crew exists purely as diversity casting. They barely have names, are barely in the movie, disappear for half of it and have nothing to do the entire time. The only notable thing is that Tunde Adebimpe sounds like Neil DeGrasse Tysone. Couldn't tell you a thing about any other crew member because they're completely wasted in this film.

The main antagonist makes no goddamn sense and serves as a foil to nothing. He feels like a criticism of corporate-capitalism ripped straight out of an 80s kids movie. There is so much muddled messaging in this movie nothing comes through with any clarity or purpose. You can tell what the writers we're going for but it's executed like a child wrote it. There are also a dozen different mind-boggling decisions that are made by character with absolutely zero motivation from the story.

The storm scenes lack any tension and is the single biggest failure of this movie. The storms are the action set pieces that contrast to the drama of this movie and they need to show up and blow away the audience. Yes that pun is intentional.

One; Everything is in daylight .What made tornados scary in Twister is that they're _monsters in the dark_. The very tornado that kills Jo's father comes out of nowhere (motivation for the character by-the-way, threatens this family, and it is never really visible when it eats the father.

The opening scene of this movie is a 'big scary tornado' in the middle of the day. It sets up the fear motivation of our character but that thread is so poorly constructed throughout the movie it's almost a background gag. Twister, the primary motivation of Jo is detecting storms so they can't just drop in on people. So people have time to react. The primary motivation of Kate is stopping storms. Except this fear thing is supposed to get in her way but it never really does. It's a hollow threat to her character.

The second failure of the tension is the that there are never any stakes and it starts right off the bat with how trivially people are killed off. This movie kills extras with such wonton disregard that you never believe any named character is in any real danger. Storms are always just out of reach of doing any real damage to characters until they have the time and moment to escape. Whenever a tornado is threatening our main characters, some paper will blow around. maybe some siding will get sucked off the building. And then we'll spend five minutes trying to figure out how to get safe. And then the building gets destroyed and some cars get thrown around .Never before though. The storm is polite enough to wait.

The original Twister is absolutely a superior movie in every way. Twisters is an imitation of a knock-off by comparison.

And it's kind of a shame, because there were some genuinely interesting things in this movie. The whole Fear motivation needed to be riding shotgun and it was sitting in the back of the bus. Ben, the fascimile of Dr. Mellissa Reeves (Bill Paxton's wife in the movie) as the outsider stuck in the crazy world of storm chasing, actually has some interesting characterization that's different from Reeves. The whole modern era of internet and $10 storm apps. This stuff is just muddled and buried by the awfulness of these legacy reboots needing to Member-berry everything.
