Easiest way is to put the dead battery into the charger next to a working one as you would normally to charge them. Connect the + side of the batteries with a thin wire (paperclip will work if it's thin enough). Tricks the charger into thinking it has the voltage of the one next to it. I keep a short thin wire in my box of batteries and chargers just for this.

If the batteries are completely drained, a smart charger will not be able to charge them. Put them into a dumb charger for 15 min, to bring them back up to a minimum level of charge, then put them in the smart charger again. I've had this happen a few times, and it always works for me. A "dumb charger" is a charger than charges batteries with no regard for the actual battery level and instead uses an internal timer to know when to turn itself off.

So, the same price for something with unknown quality vs an established reputable brand.

I hope you remember to switch your charger to low charge mode when you charge AAA.

That might be why mine take a few seconds to fully charge now. My EBL "smart" charger doesn't have a low charge mode.

I don't want to derail the thread, but can anyone recommend a good charger for these batteries?

I'm finally getting back into rechargeable batteries after just tossing a bunch of leaking "10-year guarantee" Duracells (never again!), I know these are a quality brand based on previous deals and comments, that don't leak, and I just need a good charger to pair with them. I plan to get AA's too, when a deal rolls around.

The nitecore charger can auto detect all batteries correctly besides AAA. It tends to charge them too fast and degrade AAA.

My kid lost a number of these in some of his toys for a year. Now they are completely dead and won't charge, any suggestions? I heard of shock charging them. And I have a few others that take a few seconds to fully charge from empty. And run out of charge quickly. 4 years old. I'm not sure if it's me but I've had better luck with the Japanese Energizer AA rechargeables that are older but running stronger.

Kind of defeats the point of being smart doesn't it? I'd bet 95 percent of the average users will alternate between AA and AAA for rechargeables! Rarely anything else.

Chinese lithium can be had for around $2 each with higher capacity.

Watch project farms lithium battery test video

If you watch his video the Chinese ones always die first and never hold their charge, you get rock bottom quality for a marginally lesser price. Not worth it in the long run at all

Super dumb question, but I ask just in case, would the Energizer or Duracell charger work on these?

There are a few things that do not take these batteries, AA and AAA - for some reason they do not work in certain devices? Amps to high or Voltage?
