Get eBay Coupons
just have to vent. and warn people about dealing with fakes from china ;(
over a month ago I bought what I was led to believe was a 'genuine asus laptop battery'. they used genuine (language) over and over in their ad, implying it was the real oem item and not some knockoff.
I got the item and it was a fake. I can go into the details (I have photos, here

I filed a case with paypal for return of my money. I was advised to return the item with a tracking number, of which I did (I used usps mail with a tracking #). it was not the most expensive service but it was the cheapest WITH a tracking #. there's not much status on the item and it may still be stuck in transit, but paypal just declared my case 'closed' and, of course, you have NO option to complain ;(
so now I'm out $80 for the item, I'm out the item itself and I'm out return shipping to china. wonderful.
I'm pretty pissed off about this. next stop is to call my credit card company and show them photos. I also have a photo of the package that I addressed and shipped, as well as 2 paper receipts from the post office. I'm essentially being ripped off of $170 here.
warning: the 'cheap battery' you see if probably a fake and it will cost you more to return it than its worth. you'll be out the money you paid and the item, itself.
I think I've just bought my very last china ebay item. the hassle is just not worth it if there's any chance it will need a return or a fix.
its not my fault the seller LIED. here's the link to the ad:

don't buy from this seller and, in fact, just don't buy batteries from china. this one didn't fit right, it didn't charge right and the 'level meter' was not operational until a few cycles later (some fake chip inside, non doubt).
I had a bad feeling when I was sending this thing back, thinking I just said goodbye to the battery and my money. I guess I was right.
damned paypal. and damned ebay for being the same company.

Paypal may get pissy though.
How long has the item been in transit?
edit: jan 12 is when I mailed it out. service was 'first class international mail'.
I don't care about making paypal pissy. in fact, I want that! I want them to realize their 'final' judgements are not quite final. they're not a bank and they don't get the same kind of power. my bank is my credit card company, not them.
how they get to be their own arbitration agent, I'll never know.
I'll also try to give the seller a little more time before giving up. but I have no power at this point; the item is in the mail to a foreign country and when I mailed it, it did not seem to be cost effective to insure it for the full amount (shipping would be 1/3 or more of the item's cost!). so I picked US mail regular delivery with signature or some kind of proof of delivery. not as trackable as the nicer shipping service (GEM is really good and fast but hella expensive for a heavy battery).
I suppose that might be my only mistake; not opting for the most expensive shipping rate. sigh. I hope that was not the thing that screws me, though.
and to make matters even worse, I can't leave - feedback to the seller since its now over 30 days. of course, its china - takes a long time to get here (he didn't even PACK the item for 5 days after it was sold) and takes even longer to get back.
if its a $5 item that never shows up or has problems, who cares. but an $80 fake battery, that really boils my blood. the battery did work, partially; and now I'm out 2x the cost of the battery, really. no item and no money back.
I've heard there is a magic threshold that, once you cross it, they FORCE you to connect a bank account to your PP acct.
my acct is quite old (from 98 or so) and I never ever connected a bank acct to my PP acct. never thought to be a good idea (for me; great idea for PP, though). so, at some point, you are forced to convert or lose access entirely.
is it THAT hard to live sans PP?
its not the money. I can afford it. but its the poor treatment and summary judgement that annoys me the most. I might try one time to call them and plead my case on the phone. not sure if that will bring sat. or not, though.
its been years (like, over 10) since I sold anything and now the climate is just not great for small private sellers anymore. I've given up the 'right' to sell on ebay anyway and will only use CL if I really need to sell something. pity, as ebay was useful back in the day. its just a 'power sellers' paradise today, of course.

this is fraud and I should not have to lose money AND goods because of this.
paypal sucks. ebay sucks. lack of oversight sucks. monopolies suck.
I learned my lesson. no more china ebay 'goods'. not worth it for the hassle factor.
and to make matters worse, I can't even file a neg feedback report on the seller since its been too long! he still has a 100% rating and will be stealing others' money all the while. a part of me wants to order another item from this guy just to give him the negative he deserves.

As for the PayPal situation you're in, know you're in the minority. You'll find all kinds of complaints from sellers that have been scammed out of items and money, because PayPal is overly lenient towards the buyer in most cases. I know people that were scammed out of hundreds of dollars because of fraudulent claims. One was brazen enough to leave positive feedback that they received the item in perfect condition and then a week or so later filed with PayPal claiming they never received it. PayPal asked the seller for proof of shipment and then promptly ignored the tracking number they were given, proving it was delivered.
the fact that its taking a long time to be delivered is NOT my fault; paypal jumped the gun too fast and 'declared' the case closed. that was my big beef with them. not 'do you want us to wait longer?'. no, it was 'sorry, case closed; have a nice day'. nothing to be said, nothing to contest. they give the impression that their judgement is final. probably a lot of people assume that's it and that they lost. I'm not giving up so easily. I do not have the final say from the post office yet and it could very well still be in transit. for PP to close this, given that mail has been slow these last few weeks from that region of the world, that's just all kinds of wrong. and paypal knows it.
they say I gave them the wrong or invalid tracking. BS. I can bring the data up right now. its not conclusive and so I have to assume that since there's no 'delivered' line yet, its still en route. to blame me and say 'sorry guy, you didn't use a tracking #' is just insulting.
and btw, did you have to quote my whole post? what purpose was that for?? (boggle)
