I had its predecessor (the 'vista 200') - they just use a cheap little PC fan which really aren't capable of the kind of static pressure you need to pull air through a HEPA filter, particularly once it has picked up some dust. After that, it's pretty much useless as most of the air bypasses the fan blades instead of being pulled through the filter.
If you want real air purification, get a proper air purifier with a squirrel cage blower fan and a flat filter, which won't stop filtering properly after the filter has picked up a little dust. For example, https://www.amazon.com/5510-Purif...B0DT4F8
Don't waste your money on this. It's basically only good for white noise.
We wouldn't replace our large air purifier with these units, but we have found them useful for certain particulate matter, especially for our kids who are more prone to respiratory issues.

As to the filtering: It is not truly a "HEPA" filter, as someone said. Whether that matters isn't entirely clear. Joey Fox, for instance, says no [itsairborne.com]. Now, if there were a choice between a HEPA filter and a non-HEPA filter for the same price, with the same specs otherwise, I'd opt for the HEPA filter, but I don't know that it is necessary.
