There are plenty of people posting about it on recent threads, but the general consensus I saw was they look and feel really cheap, dont mount well, and there are concerns over the cheap DC motors.

Isn't most stuff made in China?

There is a range of quality of products that come out of China. In this case, this specific brand gets posted often and almost always by staff. You can draw your own conclusions from that, but cheap means trade offs.

Got one a few weeks ago when it was on sale. Works great so far and looks great for our patio. The only problem was it only came with 3 blade holders (but has 5 blades). Requested a replacement and it, too, only came with 3 blade holders. Was able to combine them but it was weird.

Does it have a separate wire to control the fan or is this totally dependent on the remote?

I have this and can answer many questions. It looks way better in the pictures. The build is actually not too bad but the remote is flimsy. The whole fan is made out of metal except the blades. I could still turn on the fan with the wall switch without the remote. Anyway, this is a fan that doesn't move air the way that you think. Normal fan will blast wind underneath it. This fan, on the other hand, has weird blade. Rather than a normal blade like a normal fan has. They are just flat board mounted at an angle. It doesn't really move air underneath the fan at all no matter how high you turn the fan at. How ever the air move side way horizontal to the fan. You can adjust the temperature of the light as well as how you turn the fan. You can turn it clockwise or counter clockwise. It is cheap, but i would spend more money to get a better fan.

Most ceiling fan has a switch that allows it to blow down or blow up. During summer you would want air to blow down towards you, during winter you want the warm air to blow up around.
