I've been waiting for a self-emptying robot to drop under $200, and this might be it. For those of you who already live with one of these, is the self-empty feature really as handy as it sounds? Any tips for a first-timer to prep the house?

Suggestion would be to fully open all doors, pic up and move anything you can to get an accurate scan of the house before settling up.

I had the older one of these, I believe it was refurbished , and it just took a crap on me. Just a wheel broke and I think it's done. It actually works well for dog hair. As long as you're running it every night there are points in them that you have to clean, even behind Wheels or rollers that get dog hair in them. You can set up like rooms to not go into but that didn't seem to work all the time. I started to just put a yoga pillow in the middle of my hallway to keep it from going that way. And then the best thing that I learned just the habit of picking up phone cables and getting stuff off the ground, danglies off throw blankets that were on couches and stuff that could get caught. You are supposed to give it a certain amount of room on each side okay which could be cheated. I put it behind a couch and by my front door. It's not a one vacuum solution but it worked well nightly just dubbed the canister weekly

Is it true 360° LiDAR like on the higher-end Roombas, or just a front-facing scanner? The price is good. Reviews show that the mapping is solid.

You want a robot with the top mounted lidar. Everything else will have issues.
