Shaw's Supermarket Chat Thread

This thread is being created for the OT chat that goes into the Shaw's Deals thread. We are a chatty bunch and have become an extended family. I heart the OT chat, but agree that sometimes we just want to read about the deals. So hopefully this thread will help decrease the OT in the deals thread and we all have a place to chat with each other.

On another note, I spent $70 and used no coupons! $4 for a head of cauliflower, $5 for a 6pk of romaine lettuce, $5 bottle if olive oil, few packs of meat, chicken, fresh burgers, veggie jack cheese, artichoke spinach cheese dip, alfredo sauce, baby food, snack and freezer bags, $3 spaghetti squash, bread for the husband and kids, my goodness eating this way is expensive! Although the lettuce was cheaper the way I got it, $5 for 6, or $3.69 for 3. Market baskets prices have been high too, celery was $1.99 last time I got it, the sign said $1.29 though, seedless cukes were $1.69, usually they're $1.49 or $1.29.
I agree. Hannaford in my area has been holding steady at $.50 for regular cukes; $1.29 for european ones (they increased the price from $.99 a couple months ago). I saw the $6.99 frozen haddock on the front page at MB and I know there's not too much money to be saved there. Celery has been edging up to $1.89 last time at Hannies; lettuce went up from $.99 to $1.49 there too. What can I say? We're just in the middle of winter. What irks me is that Chobani went up another $.10 to $1.29 at Hannaford and went up to $1.29 from $1 at S&S.... good thing I can still buy them at $10.74 for 12 at Sam's and the quart of plain is $4.19. At that point, I'll buy a plain and mix in some jam to have a little bit more flavor variety than strawberry, blueberry, and peach. After all, the protein does have some more protein, so it is all the better. TJ's has been increasing some prices too, but still many of their prices beat out many conventional stores. I do find olive oil to be cheaper at TJ's than other places; $4 for 1/2 liter bottle the last time I bought it.

Ugh. Just wanted to complain a little. I bought a jar of almond butter from Market Basket a few weeks ago. I finally finished my old jar yesterday so I went to open the new one this morning, only to discover that someone had already opened it and eaten from it! So disgusted.

Down 20.4 lbs now. I feel like I hit a mile stone and I am happy. Few more of those and I'll be thrilled! Sticking to induction a bit longer too, I'm comfortable with no more than 20 net carbs a day. Still nervous about moving on. So glad it "warmed" up a bit this week, I was able to continue my treadmill, think that helped.

I have seen some nasty things in the markets too, just remember, its not the markets fault, its the nasty people that shop there! I visit the rest room often when I am out and about, I think its easier to count the number of people who do wash their hands than those who don't. Two weeks ago at market basket it was a worker who got out right before me, didn't wash her hands, nasty, she also ended up bagging my groceries, even nastier. Wish I had the guts to say something, but I didn't. Lots of Purell used that day...

You would lose your lunch if I told you all the things people leave for us to pick up.....its sad and disgusting.

As for the washing hands thing....old man at work over me was blowing his nose in a hankie, then going back to stocking food. OMG Had to ask the manager to remind him that you blow your nose, you wash your hands. Ick. I catch our kids not washing hands while waiting for the bathroom I say something. I don't care if its the store manager...especially with the cold/flu they passed around.

I spent about $80 this week on groceries. Although it included 4 cases of soda a case of water and enough food for about two weeks. Will end up going back for more shredded cheese from Shaws with the instant savings. I have the blocks of cheddar and jack from MB but I need mozz and pizza blends for pizza.

Ain't gots no points...Frown

Did stop and get gas on the way home. Needed to anyway. Have plenty of groceries, although if we still have water when I go on break tomorrow I may grab a couple spare cases. If not I'll grab a RC instead. Either is good.

It was pretty crazy today though. Shovels, winter wiper fluid, winter accessories (hats, gloves, etc) and sleds are all on clearance at Target so as much as food as we sold we sold snow gear too.

I have to work all weekend. Six day stretch of Tursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday/Tuesday unless the kiddo needs days swapped and then he'll have to take Monday or Tuesday. Been busting my hump for everyone and swapping out days. Think its time to put my foot down and make certain days unavailable. I don't like having Sunday as my weekend day off....stores close crazy early. Mad

I know I need to go to the store still. no school today and the kids wont get off their butts to go, they claim they won't eat lol.

Of course tonight they were suppose to sleep at Nanas and now that's not happening lol. Crap I'm never gonna get a break haha.

And hubby's at work so I'm gonna end up w shoveling duties since something is wrong w the snowblower and he hasn't fixed it yet. Blah I hate winter!!! Come on summer and sun.

The sale isn't till next week anyway. I was at MB at 10 AM yesterday and it was quite busy. All cashier lines 7 deep or more.

I went to S&S at 7PM (to go to the atm), and the store was packed - even the sco were 8 deep. I walked by the meat dept. and almost everything was wiped out. So I expect everything will be fresh next week (unless they loose power for a day or two!).

One of the MBs had the fire dept called in due to over crowding...had to let people in as people left....laugh out loud
